Interesting info

Hidden in the Motor Trend Magazine with the Mustang on it there is some interesting info on fords production plans after the GT is done. Ford has ditched plans to build the Cobra an instead they would produce a version of the GR-1 realatively unchanged except maybe increase the wheelbase for more interior room. It would be a v-10 at arround 100,000. Nothing new there but this is where it gets interesting, Motor Trend claims because of the success of the GT they expect to sell their planned production run of the GT much earlier than planned and so as not to idle the facility the GR-1 would go into production early in 2006. Now this seems way to early for me to believe but who knows. But incredibally it gets better still, they claim that the Gr-1 is a stop gap measure to keep them busy. There are persistent rumors that Ford is working on an all new mid-engine coupe that goes into a totally new design direction to replace the GT but maintain its Ferrari busting spirit. It will be powered by a short deck allumminum v-10 making 600 HP. Now a lot of things get printed in magazines that never come to be but this is something to watch for

sweet! i'm really happy that they plan to continue producing something at this end of the spectrum. i was very disappointed when i first heard that the GT was gonna be quite a limited run, and i imagined that after that, it would just be back to regular old ford with a couple cool SE mustangs. But this implies that ford will keep a halo car at the top, as Jeremy whats his name said it on Top Gear, "a blue collared worker bringing a sledgehammer down on the blue blooded european supercar aristocracy" or something along those lines.
So the GT was just the starting point for a line of really cool, and really fast cars. Sweet!
Now where's MY motor trend?! Stupid country...

I like the Cobra Roadster but it had some issues and putting it in the 100K range just wasn't right, so perhaps letting it go is ok. I also like the GR-1 (though I think it could be refined alittle) so i gues this equals good news. I got within an inch of buying a MT today becuase I'm sick of waiting for the mail.
If that mid-engine V10 rumor is true, DAY-UM

If the GR-1 comes out with its version of a 600hp V-10, and sell for around 100k, wouldnt that kinda be a kick in the butt to the GT? I mean 150,000 for a car that performs aswome is great, but 100,00 for a car that performs just as awsome (total speculation) is just a little weird to me.

I think alot of the reason for the higher price of the GT would be also to help in the tooling cost and the want for that car. Where as the GR1 will be using the same basic chassis and drivetrain.

Does anyone have solid info on Ford's plans for the Ford GT? I've seen a few rumours that they're going to kill it after two years instead of three. I'd hate to see that happen. It's the greatest car in the world: it deserves more than a cameo appearance before being brushed off the scene.
