Could you not have got a new dissy from a breakers yard, or try to get a recondtioned one? $900 cdn seems a lot for a dissy on any car! Just hope nothing else goes wrong before spring! B)

$900?

That's why I fix my cars myself... If I screw it up it will still cost me less to do it twice..
In most cases, but in this case it is the parts that cost a lot. I would have saved two hours of labour if I did it myself. The parts make up 90% of the cost. Doing it myself wouldn't have helped me much.

I even got the part below invoice because I have a friend who works there. Good luck finding a distributor for my car for much less than that.

Like I've said, I've been on Probe messageboards.....this is how much they cost. The most dreaded repair for probe owners.

I could have tried to find the part at a wreakers but I needed the car right away. I figure this will hopefully be the last repair before I get rid of her for the stang (crosses fingers). I can't stomach another one of this size. :bang:

Was it a distributor or coil pack?
It is a distributor and to correct myself in my previous post, the ignitor module is what fails.

Here is a link to the problem, parts and solution: Here

Dan let me know if you have any more problems out of the car. My friend was big into the Probe/Mx-6 scene a while back and knows the ins and outs very well. Heck he has enough v6 motors adn parts laying around to build a car i believe. They have a group of guys here in Bama that I am sure could help you out. http://alabamaprobes.org I post on that board as well since i've met most of teh guys and hang out there.

They all talk on a big national forum as well. http://www.probetalk.com

Out of interest, the probe you have in the states, is it the same as the one we had here?

We had two engines, a 2.0L 16v and a 2.5 V6 24v. If they are the same, I had no idea they were related to Nissan.

Heyho, you live and learn :bang:

Whew, that's a lot of coin for that. The part that failed (if it is what i'm thinking) originally cost Ford ~$.40.

Makes ya sick doesn't it?

Thanks a lot scott. I've been on that board also but usually frequented the Ford Probe FAQ board (smaller, got to know the guys).

Too bad for these big repairs because it really is a great car from a driving standpoint.

But, she's getting old (though the exterior doesn't show it) and its time to get onto a Horse.

Yup.

I can tell you something, lets try not to have too many more Ford/Mazda partnerships where the car gets axed and both parties pretend it never existed.

BTW, my Probe was built at AAI. Paint is holding up fairly well. Build quality is good also. Part design and engineering isn't the plants fault though.

That was going to be my sentiment. I had a 93 GT that I got when it was new. Tons of fun to drive, but that car was made to break. I'm glad I got out of it when I did, as the next owner had quite a few problems. Here's the kicker: I sold that car to get my 66 fastback (back in 1996) and I paid HALF of what the buyer of my probe did for my fastback. (Sold the Probe for $11K, bought the fastback for $5.5K)

I think I got the better part of that deal.
