The Honda CR-Z fails as a sports car and as a hybrid...

I was kinda interested in the Honda CR-Z. A sporty hybrid? Sounds cool. In the real world... eh, not so much.

First, it fails as a sports car. Road and Track tested the CVT-equipped CR-Z, and recorded a 10.5 second 0-60 time. A Prius is faster!

The 6-speed manual version may be faster, but it can't be by much.

Even worse, it fails as a hybrid. Someone ran a real-world test and barely got over 35 MPG.

So far, the only sporty hybrid that will live up to the hype is the Porsche 918 Spyder... but it's going to cost $600,000...

Yeah, this CR-Z seems to be neither fish nor fowl, seeming more a car Honda wants to build than a car anybody particularly wants to buy.

Hopefully an Si or R variant is not far off, stuffed with some VTEC screamer and suitable upgraded chassis -- then it might well become a car people want to buy.
