I was reading the Motor Trend future vehicles report and right by the note on the SVT Cobra Mustang for 06 was the rumor of Ford brining back the Fairlane or Galaxie to replace the Crown Vic.

Should be interesting to see how they handle the design on that and how retro they go after the Mustang.

From Motor Trend (Motor Trend Futurewatch)
2006 Ford Fairlane : Fairlane is the working name for this rear-drive sedan conjuring nostalgic images, though Galaxy has been mentioned, too. To be based on the DEW Lite platform, the Fairlane is rumored to fit in above the Taurus, making it the likely Crown Vic replacement.

Isn't the Five Hundred the sedan above the Taurus?

Its too late for an 06 I would think, there would be at least some kind of rumors before this. 07 maybe ..

I also can't imagine them replacing the Crown Vic, especially since the CV is considered "the" cop car.

I thought it was kinda interesting that Ford would try to dump the Crown Vic too... Maybe the Fairlane/Galaxie could be slated to be Ford's very own GTO type car. Nothing flashy but a car similar to the Crown Vic hopped on on steroids with amazing perfromance abilities?

Old news... isn't the Crown Vic supposed to be redesigned or dropped for a new car in 2008?

Taurus is gone... 500 is the replacement
And if you remember the Caprise Classic was the vehicle of choice for Law Enforcement (Heads above the Crown Vic) before GM dumped it back in 1996.

Ford's going over to naming all their models starting with an "F", except for it's "Heritage" models (Mustang, T-bird, Crown Vic, Explorer). Notice that?

Five hundred.
Freestar.
Freestyle.
Focus.
F-series.

So, if anything, I'd bet they'd bring back the Fairlane to fit in with the "F" motif.

Well, its not the first time Ford has used themes for naming vehicles, they used horses for awhile: Mustang, Bronco, Pinto... Then they went on the exploration naming theme for awhile: Explorer, Expedetion, Probe.

It's even more rediculous with Mercury.

There aren't very many good car names that start with the letter "M", as evidenced by the titles of Mercury's current lineup... :notnice:

According to Motor Trend, the following will happen...

Fairlane (or Galaxie) introduced for M.Y. 2006, likely late in the model year...

Five Hundred will remain fairly unchanged for a while, though it might get a more powerful V6 for 2006...

Crown Victoria will continue on the Panther platform before FINALLY recieving a head-to-toe redesign for M.Y. 2008 (check out the Future Vehicle Forecasts for 2007 and 2008 to read about that), based on an upcoming Ford Australia Falcon platform.

I've heard through the grapevine that the Fairlane (or Galaxie) is supposed to be pretty close to the Ford 427 concept, and will definitely feature at least one V8 powertrain.

I hope you don't think the same thing about Montego, Milan, MontClair, Monterey, Mariner...

In the hardcover book on the Mustang, it is speculated that the Mustang's platform (which is largely the DEW, and may very well be the DEW lite they're talking about) will spawn other rear wheel drive sedans and coupes.

Kinda nice to have the tables turned for once. Rather than the Mustang being a different flavor of a Falcon, Pinto or Fairmont.

I assume you're talkin about the Aussie Falcon, that car is pretty effin sweet, not quite my cup of tea, but a nice car nonetheless.

No, just the Marauder. The Mountaineer is an alright name, after that it goes downhill in a hurry.

The marauder was an awsome car. All that it needed was a stick shift instead of only coming in an automatic.

Why would Ford drop Taurus? Its been Ford's best selling family sedan since 1986 (when it was introduced).

Why would Ford replace Crown Victoria? They wanna do same mistake Chevrolet did with Caprise?

I kinda like the Montego name. But this whole FF and MM designation thing is absurd. I always thought MC names sounded good: Mercury Cougar, Mercury Comet, Mercury Cyclone.
