The GTO is officially dead
Does the term modify mean anything. ALOT of us got our Mustangs and modify them so they stand out, and don't look like the rest of the "Jones". I'd rather be in my GT, that doesn't look like anyone else's (especially now with the CS67 wheels) and get thumbs up (I still do) from cars passing by,and have people come up to me at water ice stands, gas pumps, etc, and chat (still do), than drive around in the GTO. I will never doubt its stats. Its impressive, especially for the money, but when GM comes out with an icon from the 60's and makes it look like an bloated Cavalier or Grand Am/Grand Prix, that is downright criminal.
The styling of it was definately a little on the tame side however I loved the car. Interior on it was hands down better than most other GM products out there, and for it's weight it could move (LS2 powered ones that is). Well from here we just got to wait for its new form. It was only a 3 year contract to bring it back the first time anyway with an 08 restyle.
Yeah, you guys do have a point. But in terms of it being rarer, especially with the numbers. I was amazed when I read for every 1 gto there is 15 mustangs. (well for the 05 models)
I owned a 05 GTO M6 - Torrid Red. I sold it for the GT, basically because I wanted something I could modify, and use for a toy.
In that regard, the GTO was a bad fit. It's a nice daily driver. Comfortable, poweful, and reasonably priced.
All this 'it's rare", "'i'm not one of the pack", "it will be collectable". All sounds like people trying to reaffirm their purchasing decision.
Overall a pretty nice car, if you can accept the lack of visual appeal.

Well to answer your question, I think the GTO is getting more and more popular again. Even almost 2 years after the last model was released. To answer your question about how mnay being made and so on. The really wasn't that many made. 11,000 were sold in 2005. In the 3 year span, I believe 45,000 were made.
So how rare is the the GTO?
In 2005 Ford made 160,000 Mustangs
In 2005 Nissan imported 30,000 350Z
In 2005 there were only 11,069 GTOs made.
Just think for every 1 GTO made in in 2005 there are 15 Stangs on the road. Hang on to them boys and girls....
And IMO, that is why the GTO will be worth something someday. I rather ride in a Aussie-made Goat then buy a Mustang or Charger and be like the rest of the pack.
