GM's June Sales Numbers

Down 24%! All that new product doesn't appear to be selling very well IMO.

Here's the link.

I think the reason GM's numbers are down is because everybody who wanted the flashy new GM trucks in the year was buying them. Now that everybody has got one, the numbers will go back to a norm. Just my opinion. Its not like the other 2 of the big three did amazing or anything either. Chrylser was down 5% and Ford was down 11.5%. I was suprised to see how much lincoln had increased 25.2%. Thats awesome.

I found this information in another forum:

The following GM vehicles dropped roughly 1/4 (25%) - 1/3 (33%) from June '06 to June '07:

Lucerne
CTS
DTS
Aveo
Cobalt
G6
Escalade
SRX
C/K Suburban(Chevy)
Chevy C/T Series
Colorado
Express Panel/G Van
Express/G Sportvan
Tahoe
Silverado-C/K Pickup
Chevrolet Fullsize Pickups
Sierra
Yukon
HUMMER H2
VUE

The following GM vehicles dropped by about half (50%) from June '06 to June '07:

LaCrosse
STS
XLR
Malibu
Monte Carlo
ION
Rainier
Terraza
Escalade ESV
Equinox
TrailBlazer
Envoy
Savana/Rally
Yukon XL
Torrent

The following GM vehicles dropped by roughly 3/4 (75%) from June '06 to June '07:

GTO
9-2X
ION
Rendezvous
Montana SV6
That paints a rather depressing picture IMO.

GM reported selling 406 GTOs in June and 3,487 YTD 2007. I guess that says something about the popularity of the GTO when they're still selling 2006 models this far into 2007!

My local Pontiac dealer still has two brand new GTO's on the lot. Of course, the possibility that GM is doing very little to help here does exist since it isn't uncommon for car makers in general to drop rebates on models they think you should have already moved across the curb anyway using this as an 'incentive' for the dealers not to hold on to last years product too long. While this idea sounds great on paper it doesn't alwayswork so well in the real world.

For example, when I sold Volvo's we ran into this very problem with a few of the last S70 sedans, largely due to some apparent miscommunication within Volvo. Of course, the GTO was never a sales wonder anyway and it is impossible by this juncture to call it anything but an utter flop. In light of this it is certainly plausible that the bove has nothing to do with it and the popularity problems the new GTO has been dealing with since inception have simply carried on well past the cars sell by date.

If I owned a Pontiac dealership of some size I would either use remaining GTO's in a charity or publicity event or offer them as a mega sales incentive to my best employees. Either way I'd make them go away.

According to the Pontiac web site, they're offering $3,000 rebates on 2006 GTOs so Pontiac is trying to rid the lots of them.

you'd be crazy to pay 30k+ for a new GTO when you can get a perfect used one for 10k less.

$10,000 for GTO? That's really hard to believe.

No, $10K less than a new one. In other words, a used GTO for $20K+ vs. a new GTO $30K+.

Yeah, but I would still argue that they aren't trying hard enough even at 3k off. GTO's had rebates arge than that at one point while production was still underway if I recall. Tack another 2k onto the 3k mentioned above and things might get a lot better since that would move these cars down into the same price range as the average Mustang GT coupe.

Although, I also wouldn't be surprised if more than a few Pontiac dealerships were touting these as rare cars dwindling in number on dealer lots and asking full sticker for the cars, or offering to cut only a grand or two in an attempt to make more money. Either way the GTO's a turd. As I stated above if I were a Pontiac dealer and had new Goats on the lot still they wouldn't make it to the end of this week one way or another.

No, no, I know what less means, but for some reason I missed that word.

Maybe its time to replace my reading glasses.

I bought my '95 SHO right at the end of the '95 MY and they weren't moving at all (not that they exactly flew off lots at the beginning of the MY either). All Ford was offering was a $3,500 rebate on them. Luckily for me, the dealer tacked on an additional $6,500 discount to move it (it had been lot queen for several months). I would imagine that most dealers are adding to the Pontiac rebate to move them.

yes dealers are giving some too. I looked on ebay there was a dealer giving i think it was 1500 or somthing on top of the 3000 so the car new would be $28,995. not bad but i would still just go buy a used 05...they can be had for about 18k.

Until the American Automakers band together, and go after the politically influential racketeering oil companies, they are screwed..

rack·et·eer·ing /ˌrækɪˈtɪərɪŋ/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[rak-i-teer-ing] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation –noun the practice of conducting or engaging in a racket, as extortion or bootlegging.

The problem is, the oil companies have our democracy bought and paid for.. So any mouthing off from the Automakers about the activities of the oil companies will result in an even worst situation...

However, at some point somebody is going to be held responsible for this point in history in regards to high gas prices.. If the Automakers want to stay in business, they will have to fight big oil in a cage match to the death...
