Greatest car designers of all times
So, who do you consider to be the greatest car designers of all times?
Few of my favorites ...
Giorgetto Giugiaro
Harley Earl
Elwood Engel
Nuccio Bertone
Pinin Farina

To me I have always thought Giorgetto Giugiaro was overrated. If you look at his body of work their are a couple stand outs but majority are just meh...
Things he did that I do like, The Delorean and concepts like the BMW Nasca C2. Other than that...
It could be just the timeframe that he worked in, 1970's and 80's. Not a lot of cars in that era have any particular pizazz. But even his 60's work is boring compared to the hot cars of the 60's.

I love the work that he did in the 1970s and 1980s, especially on "Average Joe's cars". Cars like Volkswagen Golf Mk. 1 and Fiat Tipo and even some exotics like Honda NSX.
Heck, he even managed to design a good looking Yugo (late 1980s Yugo Florida).

I would say Pinin Farina, both the man and his firm, has the most classic, timeless styling and would put him at the top. If you want a car that is simply and timelessly beautiful, he da man.
Giugiaro had his hay day in the '70s and into the '80s, but then sort of lost some of his spark.
Bertone, too, had his hay days from perhaps the '60's into the early '80s, but again, sort of lost some leading edge pizzaz after that.
Harley Earl certainly ranks up there and GM could certainly use a strong, singular design vision today. While there are some good designs coming out of GM, too many reek of design committee where everyone had a say.
