I've owned three . . all Vulcan V6s. All went over 130,000 miles with only an alternator replacement on one . . . which I performed. They are a darn good deal as long as resale isn't an issue and you plan to drive into the ground. Watch out for tranny issues. I never had one, but if you are the type to "roll and slap" into gears you will have issues. Plus they are good in the snow and relatively easy on repair costs. One last thing . . . when I sold my last one I was averaging ~23-24mpg city and ~30-32mpg hwy @ ~70mph with 125,000 miles. (I ran 91-93 octane once she hit ~85,000 and replaced plugs and wires at same time.)

GM's 3800 V6 is a proven reliable engine. I think an Impala, Grand Prix, Regal with that engine is a a cheap reliable car.
