Going out with a bang

Over 1K+ hp and a parachute in case it takes off. For those 1/4 mile fans. Enjoy!

Pricing for the Demon 170 has been set at an appropriately evil $96,666, not including destination charges and fees. Each will come with a serialized Demon-branded decanter and whiskey glass set as another tip of the hat to its E85-burning capability.

Well, let's give Dodge credit. At least it was not named The Commander as in The COMMANDERS.

As I get older this is all rather silly to me. These insane HP cars are just for those that have to have top HP bragging rights. I doubt 10% of the owners would even use them to 50% of the car's ability. I know two local Hellcat owners and neither guy (both older because no one else can afford these cars) who have never used the 2nd 'key'. The cars sit in garages and attend car shows and cruise-ins. That's fine, they love them, but I like driving my cars like any other. I bought my 2020 R/T Plus Shaker Hemi new at half the price of these monsters. I can count on both hands how many times I have been pedal to the metal. The 400+ pound feet of torque moves these heavy cars as quick as the Coyote in my GT. Getting near triple digits is another story as the GT gets crazy fast at the high RPMs, but I sure don't use either car in that fashion very often. I can take my R/T shopping, do errands, and we are going on a long vacation soon. Mid-grade gas and comfort too. To each his own but I personally don't want or need 700+ HP machines. Of course 40+ years ago i would be stunned if I ever said something like that.

Don't Get Me Wrong There are People Who Have Worked Their Way Up With High Hp Cars & Can Be Mature Enough to Handle These Things & Appreciate Them. We Have Some Members Here Who Know What they Have & Can Respect The Responsibility.

But The Downside Is Somebody With Lots o Money That Never Drove anything High Hp. They Jump into one of These and Hurt Themselves & Someone Else. Worst Case Situation the Rich Kid Who Gets One of These as a First Car! OMG Seen This Firsthand Back in the day With Far Lower HP and Fatal Results.

More than anything the thrill of having high powered muscle cars is the feeling and sound of shifting at high RPMs. The exception of course are the professional drivers. It's a great feeling having and taming a top dog and knowing it can just about be made to explode at any time, figuratively speaking.

I have never been tempted to drive a car at speeds more than the low 100s mainly because I know my limitations. Besides, I learned a long time ago that allowing one's high hormones to do the thinking instead of the brain can get one in trouble really quick.

Help me pick my wardrobe for tonight, should I go with a turtle neck and Hush Puppies or a cheap grey suit and a burgundy vest?

I didn't read the article but after reading about the whiskey decanter and glasses, and the e85 I assumed that the 170 is a reference to the e85. It would be a 170 proof if it's 85% ethanol. Wonder if they added a warning label with the glasses not to drink e85 fuel?

Yep,{The two-door coupe is powered by a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 that’s rated at 900 hp when running on 91 octane gasoline and an astonishing 1,025 hp using even higher octane E85 fuel.

The 170 in its name is a humorous reference to the alcohol content and proof of E85.}

Well at least I've still got a little bit of reasoning power left to come to that conclusion. Not a total idiot quite yet. Surprised,, pretty sure I've lost it most days.

Sure am glad I gave up going fast in a straight line after building my 8 second station wagon in the 1980's, always someone faster.
Now going around corners quicker, that's a different story

It seems someone always is. Add the cost of missing a gear or demolishing a rear end or heaven forbids, a blown tire down the stretch, and enjoyment dwindles and fades slowly. A kid at the Blue Oval News forums once posted that 'a good day at the track was not coming home in a tow truck', and he was right.

To me dominating shifting and cornering seems like a lot more fun, challenging, less risks, and more economical as well. It can be humorous how time redefines one's perspectives. I used to be called courageous and good looking. At times I am now referred to as wise and distinguished. Figure that one out!

Wait until you beat up on a C7 Corvette with your V6 Mustang, you become the ugly, old, crotchety grey guy over there that knows the road. No more cute and lovable
