GM files trademark application for 'Z28'

GM Authority is reporting that General Motors has filed with the United States Patent Office for a trademark of the "Z28" moniker.

So they probably did have it...
Since trademarks expire, every car company has to renew it's trademarks from time to time in order to protect it's historic brand names from being used by someone else. Trademarks are not only used for producing cars. They are also issued to protect and license names for use on aftermarket accessories, model cars, replacement parts, etc.

Yep Ford famously does this with the Cobra moniker - one of the reasons for the 93+ Cobras was to protect the name.
