Ford Plant Closures and layoffs
Don't know if anyone else heard about it. It seems Ford may close 5 plants and lay off about 7,000 employees in an attempt to restructure in response to their continuing losses in revenue. Supposedly they will announce their restructuring plans early sometime next month. On another note, I saw an business analyst give GM good prospects concerning their future product lines/product plans while saying Ford's problem is it does not have a consistent one. Maybe we should be more worried about Ford?
These plans are old news. They've been in talks for quite some time, but the plan won't be definite until its finalized.
Again, the media loves to overhype bad news. If its good news no one's interested. If its bad or has the potential to sound bad they will run with it so everyone stares and gawks.
When was the last time you saw a front page headline about more jobs being available.

But the dangers to the American auto industry are real, and no one should have any illusions about the crisis they face.

Just last night on CNN as a matter of fact. They talked about how the economy has had an aggregate 3% growth increase over the past 10 quarters and is doing quite well even despite Katrina, the war and other factors.

Its true. Im a Communications major in college and every media class I have taken so far tells us that the bad news recieves a greater response than the good news does. And unfortunetly all the media stations and papers rather focus on ratings/readers than reporting the news overall.

By the same token, just because the media is reporting slumping domestic car sales doesn't mean domestic car sales aren't slumping.

Sad, but it's true.
