I'll reserve judgement, but my initial reaction is . . . :notnice:.

I was reading about this topic on BON as well.

So basically the latest Continental Concept was nothing more than just that a concept.

I like this much better . .

Yeah, I loved that Continental concept. Suicide doors, reminiscent of old Continentals, a big powerful engine, sharp edges, and a sweet interior. With some reworking, Lincoln coulda and shoulda built it. Lord knows they need something like that more than another $50k F-150 derivative.

$%&# NO.

If they take away the American flair of being purely RWD and being a massive car in all areas (since America itself is so friggin' big anyway), then I'll totally lose faith in Ford's luxury division. $%&#, just drop Lincoln and have Jaguar become the luxury division if you're going to stink out all the qualities that make Lincoln the brand it is (good and bad).

It sounds to me like Lincoln doesn't know where it's going, and unless they figure that out pretty soon, they're going to be extinct. In my mind, they're a lot like Mercury. Nothing unique, just overpriced Fords.

I like that concept Continental, but that car alone can't save the brand.

Sad.

The 500 is an amazing platform, and it already has the same legroom as a continental. The panther pig needs to go, and using something like the 3.9 would rock in that car. I doubt that becomes the continental, maybe a mid-line product. The next Vic platform is rumored to be based on a stretched mustang one and most likley that will be it. By then the 400+hp 6.2 Hurricane will be out.

Kev, I know that you are knowledgeable when it comes to Ford but you should really hear what some of the people on BON have to say about the panther....

The Maurder is a better all around handeling car than the 300C. Figures do not tell you that. The 3 MPH in salom it pretty sad considering the the 300 is brand new with IRS and the base engineering in the panther is 30 years old and has a solid axel out back that has not changed much since 79. The panthers are also giving up a liter worth of displament to the 300c V8's so 0-60 times are a no brainer.

As for the LS chop it. It is too expensive to build for that segment. Replace it with an AWD 500 variant. That will increase profits on the chassi. And leave the LS platform to Jag and Jags image is not muddied either.

The thing with the Panther has nothing to do with passion but everythgnto do with keeping the most reliable, durable and profitable platform viable.

I own panthers cause they work are reliable and almost industructable . That fact that Iam driving a car that is 13 years old and has just shy of 970,000 kms on says all that needs to said on that subject.

I would by anouher one but want some thign more up to date style wise. Again the issue of a 13 year old body style.

Again I do not know where you get he idea the panthers compete with the 5 Series they are 2 totaly different market segments. They may share dimetions and drive lay out. But it ends there.

The panthers fill a segemnt that is viable and quite possibly growing.

Remebr the name of the game is profits per platform. The LS lincoln is not a money maker regardless of how good a car is if it does not sell it might as well be a crap can.

For what ever reason Lincoln has had this obssesion to compete with BMW and Mercedes . Insted of sticking to their roots. Cadillac went back to it's roots and makes no excuses for being an Amercian luxery marque, and is now reaping the rewards for it.

The Panthers as is are as good as most other current offerings near the same market segment and in a lot of areas better. As well a panther costs half as much as a 5 series sedan with a V8
