Cool Ferrari SP12 EPC (Clapton one-off)

Eric Clapton's custom Ferrari caught on camera

Gifted guitarist and avid Ferrari fan Eric Clapton was reported last year to have requested Ferrari build him a one-off 458 Italia powered by a V-12 engine.

However, unlike previous custom Ferraris like the Superamerica 45 and P540 Superfast Aperta, which Ferrari were more than happy to confirm, there was no mention from any official source that the British musician had ever made such a request.

Now a video of a custom 458 Italia has been spotted at the HR Owen London dealership in England, which is believed to have been commissioned by Clapton.

Inspiration for the car comes from the Ferrari 512 BB (Berlinetta Boxer) of the 1970s, which as its name suggests featured a flat 12-cylinder engine and often came with a two-tone color scheme similar to the one on this custom 458 Italia.
According to GTSpirit, the official name of the car is SP12 EPC, which means Special Program 12 (for V-12 tribute) and Eric Patrick Clapton, the full name of the artist. The angular headlights are the same ones fitted to the Enzo and behind the seats is the 458 Italia’s 4.5-liter V-8. Apparently, Ferrari was unable to install one of its V-12 engines into the tight confines of the 458 body.

The video, posted by YouTube user Shmee150, shows off the custom 458 Italia from all angles, revealing that the modifications to the rear is much more substantial than the changes to the front. Clapton is believed to have paid upwards of $3 million to Ferrari's Special Projects division for the privilege.

In my opinion, that's much better than the 458. I know a lot of the 458 faithful hate it but I don't. All of Ferrari's SP cars have been fantastic thus far. I thought Ferrari had lost all of it's soul when they finally ditched the 6 speed manual for good with the introduction of the 458. But, the SP cars have kept some of that soul alive. The price is a little ridiculous though. If I had the sufficient funds, I'd do an SP car of my own in a heartbeat.
