The driver of a red Ferrari Enzo lost control of the exotic car at high speed this morning on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, and the vehicle disintegrated after striking a power pole.
The driver fled. His passenger suffered a cut lip. The car is estimated to have been worth up to one million dollars.
The driver ran into the hills after the 6:15 a.m. crash and the passenger stayed behind. The engine was on the highway and the Ferrari wreckage was several hundred yards away in the west Malibu area near Decker Canyon.
Pacific Coast Highway was shut down for more than two hours.
A three-hour foot and helicopter search failed to find the Ferrari driver.

And to think, Ferrari screened it's owners to approve those that could partake of the Enzo. I'm guessing with enough money you really can convince anyone of anything.

Maybe it was stolen.

What a douche!!! He fled the scene and left his passenger behind!
See what happens when idiots have way too much money on their hands.

why did he flee from the scene? Can't see why you'd do that unless you stole the car. its not like the passenger wouldn't be able to identify who was driving.

I know, the most ambiguitous article ever written. And to think, this 'reporter' gets paid for that. Its like a 4th grader wrote it for the school paper

What a complete dumba&^!!! They say the passenger only got a cut lip, but was drunk, and he claimed he wasn't the driver. Funny thing, when the police officer made a statement to the press, he said that both airbags went off, but only the driver's airbag had blood on it. If the passenger was the driver, good luck to him on ever getting a license and insurance again. I'd hate to give the insurance company a call on this one. Complete moron .
I would love for someone to email this link to Jeremy Clarkson, as he loves this car. He and his co-hosts on Top Gear, would have a field day at this driver's expense. They would call him every name in the book.

Wonder how fast "oh-so-fast" is? Got to give cudos to Ferrari, car is mashed and guy got a cut lip, Impressive.
And I agree, this is what happens when idiots have too much money.
Passenger being driver, actually makes sense.

This just goes to show that the streets are NOT made for that kind of speed. The car may very well be built to handle that type of stress but the roads are public and contain lots of debris and imperfections that at those speeds can prove to be catastrophic.
Whether or not the vehicle was stolen, arrogance played a big role in this accident.

The piece I read on it (MSNBC.com) casts suspicion on the "passenger's" story. It appears the passenger is the owner of the car, and the passenger airbag did not deploy. The "passenger" claims the driver was an acquaintance he only knew as "Detrich".
Would you let someone you only knew as "Detrich" drive your million dollar Ferrari? Personally, I would not. I'm gonna have a first and last name, as well as know the person somewhat, before they'd even get behind the wheel of my Mustang!
