Favorite Driving Roads

Post your favorite roads to drive on, for others to share in. You know: good paving, light traffic, high speed limits & low police activity.

Not many in central CT, but I'll throw out rt. 9 from the shore to mid-state (Middletown area): decently paved, 65 mph, usually very little traffic at night. North of that, the traffic picks up big time and the roads get worse.

From: That town you drive through to get to Myrtle Beach
NC Hwy 64 Between Hendersonville, NC, through Highlands, NC then into Franklin, NC. Where you switch onto Hwy 129, which twists and turns until you get to the famous Tail of the Dragon/Deal's Gap. There's a ton of fun roads in that general area. Then up the Foothills Parkway into Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg TN. Its 200 miles that will take you 5-6 fun filled hours, because as you can see there's not much of a straight road anywhere!

BTW, those who are going to the 50th in Charlotte, we're gonna hit up alot of these roads!

There's a lot of nice roads out and around lake Coeur d'Alene. I normally just head out on Highway 27 heading west and get myself lost on some backroads near the Washington/Idaho border.

Be aware though, police activity can get pretty heavy out there during the week. No so much on the weekends unless it's a holiday weekend.

Few of my favorites.

Rhodes, Greece, I loved driving there by the beach.

But my favorite road has always been at around Sibenik, Croatia. I love driving there.

84 from Woodside to La Honda was one of my favorites back in high school. Now that I'm in Berkeley, Grizzly Peak is a fantastic drive, and one hell of a view to boot

Down here in flat country, we don't have privileged roads such as those beauties - nearly every road is straight and flat, though sometimes scenic.

Actually, US90 from Slidell to New Orleans through "the island" has it's moments, including "Dead man's Curve" where Jane Mansfield was killed.

Sigh... wish I could remeber the route number, took the scenic backroad from Pittsburgh to Winchester Va - lots of curves and lots of elevation changes with small towns and lots of country (plus alot of old rail roads carved out of the mountains was a plentiful feature though WVa and MD) as we passed from PA to MD to WVa to VA.

It was... beautiful

for some nice easy driving with some twisty stuff pretty much in my back door I hop right down into CT. I like routes 169, 197,198 & 171 + all the little roads stuffed in between and parts of 32 plenty of sick roads in teh north west corner of CT i Have been on. In Ma you have Route 202 from 9 in Belchertown going north, gets really twisty. Routes 116 going towards Adams from Amherst also RT2 greenfield area going west, routes 112, routes 7 & 8 just to name a quick few.

All the above mentioned are 'wanna go' destinations that one day, one day, I will get to. In Awesome, and on Ride.

But, until then, these are awesome in my own 'back yard':

335, 336, and 337, plus 16, 39 and 1340 in the Kerrville/Leakey Texas area. The first three are the Three Twisted Sisters.

Also, Lime Creek Road which winds around Lake Travis.

Also, FM949 startin' between Sealy and Bellville, then on 1094 and 1291 to Fayetteville.

Then get up to Round Top, and then go back to Bellville on 1457 and 159.

Then go up 1456 outta Bellville, and then take 1371 to Chappel Hill.

Then go find the Old Chappel Hill Road, and take that awesomeness to Old Navasota Road, which will dump you out at 105. Then go find 390 a little NW of there, and take it all the way to Burton.

Then go home.

Yeah. Thems some of my favorites. There's more. But that'll do fo now.

/Wistful.
//Maybe Ride will be working this weekend!
///Been a long road for poor Ride... stupid carbs, and my time issues...

Theres this road near me nicknamed snake rd. A great drivers road, elevation changes, good chicanes and and 270 degree turns, all in about 2 miles. The best road Ive driven. Better then most mountain roads
