Fast 4 bangers, cheap!
I'm looking to start may racing career
A local short track has races for 4 cylinder-front drive cars called "enduro." 100 lap race (25 miles) So I'm looking for an old 4 banger I can pick up for less than 1,000 bucks since I have to remove all glass, lights, plastic and turn it into an unstreetable race car.
What are the fastest cars in this department from yesteryear that I should shop for?? My family used to have an old toyota hatch that i thought was pretty fast when I was a kid. Does anyone have any experience in this type of racing that can help me out?

Now what are all the qualifications? Does it have to be n/a or can you have a boosted car?

Dodge Omni!!
I kid but I'm half way serious. What about an old CRX or Protoge? VW Rabbit?
Update: so I just searched Autotrader for under $1500, manual trans, 2wd. The response is hilarious. I want to buy them all! Plymouth Breeze Espresso, VW Scirocco, 323 Hatch! This is like a field day. I want my job to be to go around the country buying these cars and selling them to potential racers.

also make sure you save all the glass, that stuff is worth good money and could be sold to body shop or anyone that needs new windows on their car. A good way to recoop some money.
1st gen Rx7?
1st gen Rx7?

I just read that turbos, superchargers and rotary motors are not allowed. We also have to use stock suspension with tires no wider than 215... No z rated tires. They basically want us to take it off the street and race it

so the prelude i mentioned fits the qualifications

If this is a new class, then quite simply, the lightest, most balanced, most powerful, and above all, hardy, car is what you want.
If it's NOT a new class... then maybe sneaking a peek at what the others had run would be a good idea. Unless you just simply will NOT buy a Toyota Celica GT that's 1350 and ready to go...
/there's one on Ebay now.
//Easy search, go to motors.ebay.com, enter buy it now, 10 to 1500 as your price, and 4cyl as your engine. Tada, all the ones you want... some not worth it, but a couple...
///The Saturn SL2 is an interesting choice...
////And the Pinto Wagon. I want it myself, but just b'cause it's COOL. It'd be too heavy to race tho.
