End of Yugo
After God-knows-how many years, production of all Yugo models will end by the end of this year. Factory in Kragujevac, Serbia won't be closed since Serbian government made a deal with Fiat and in the same factory Fiat 500, Punto and Topolino will be produced. The original plan was to keep producing Yugos until 2011, but demand for those models from Fiat is so high that they wanted to start a early production.
I know that Yugo has a pretty bad reputation, but if you take care of it it is a pretty good car. Very cheap, brand new one starts under 4,000 euros (and this is in a country where 20 year old Volkswagen diesels are worth around 3,000 euros), very economical and parts are so cheap and anyone car afford them. When I was in Serbia recently I paid around $5 for all 4 brake pads. Doesn't get any cheaper than that.
Here are some Yugo models through history. Some might look familiar, other probably won't.
Yugo Scala 101, oldest model from this factory. It was in a production since 1971. It was very popular in former Yugoslavia.

And his twin, Scala 128.

And pickup.

Yugo Koral, in production since 1981.

Yugo Florida, in production since 1987.

The most current model from the factory, it's called Zastava 10. It went on sale few years ago and has all Fiat parts.

Probably the most popular model that ever came from this factory, original Zastava 750 (based on Fiat 500). Production ended in 1982.

Original Zastava 101 from early 1970s.

315 hp Yugo w/ Mazda's 1.3L twin-turbo engine.

Yugo Limo

Yugo Limo
The Yugo was ahead of it's time here in the US. I'd imagine that if that car were brought to the US last year it'd be rather successful. With the slower economy and higher gas prices, Yugo might be the car to fit the needs of a lot of Americans.
You know, I'll be honest....I really thought that there wouldn't be a SINGLE Yugo I would ever own or want to own but this car is VERY cool in my book!!! 315HP in that thing would make it a little rocket and FINALLY a Yugo that looks good as well! The flared fenders are a nice rallyesque touch too!
Thanks for sharing.....that is definitely a Yugo worth having!

No prob.
Could you share a pic of your '64 Marauder? I've been a fan of this car ever since I saw it on Wrecks to Riches. They did replica of Parnelli Jones' car.

It doesn't look like much but it's a solid car......and also a picture of a scale model we built of what the car will look like finished. It will have a 1996 Lincoln Mark VIII DOHC 4.6 and automatic trans in it as well.
I always liked simple small nimble hatchbacks. If it were not for the Mustang I would probably have gotten one.
I used to have fun plodding around in my dad's 1981 Chevette Diesel... Simple no nonsense car that wasn't spectacular at anything but it ran for over two decades after it was given to my brother who retired it just a few years ago...
The 07 VW GTI... It used to be in my household, but not my car. I drove it a lot and that car was fun... White with black interior with aluminum accents... Which inspired me to seek the same color combo for my Pony...
