Dodge Challenger-Mustang GT's For Sale...

No wonder you think the Dodge is so cool, your comin' from a V6?
Why not step up to a GT?
Add a few upgrades and whip that fat Dodge!
You could do alot with the 7K difference.
Just my 2 cents.

While I feel the Challenger is a beautiful car, I am led to believe it will be 2009 before you will see them in the dealerships IF chrysler decides to make them. they are also very heavy and by that time I am sure the Mustang GT will have more power.

I think the Challenger will be a great car. However, it will be $10,000 more than my Mustang. Just a few thousand $$$ shy of the Shelby. I'm sure they'll come out with a v6 in mid 20's. So if you want to compare a car to the Mustang you had, you better go that route. And then see what car you think is quicker. As the guy above posted, it's a 4200 lb car. Why do you think this car (which I like)(I'm not any particular kind of automobile car kind of guy)(If I like a car, I care less weather it's a GM, Chrysler, or FORD) will be any different than say the Magnum 5.7 Hemi. 0-60 in 6.3 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 14.5 seconds. How will that beat a Mustang. Unless Dodge plans on dropping the price to compete with Mustangs sales, I can't see this being much of a challange, on the road or in the showrooms.

Challenger Hemi will be in the same price range as Shelby Mustang. If you can afford $40,000 Challenger then you can afford Shelby Mustang which is more powerful and lighter and of course - faster. Challenger will come with 3.5L and 5.7L, just like 300, Magnum and Charger.

The GT's job is to compete with the R/T Challenger which will be in the same price range.
Why are you comparing a 40K car with a 25-28K car?
Hey just for fun.......why can't Ford build a Mustang GT that can produce more power and whip a Corvette, but be under 30k?

Not to flame you at all Rex, because what you want to buy is your perogative but....
.....just out of curiosity, why spend theoretically $40k on a vehicle that has a "claimed" 1/4 mile time of 13 seconds compared to a Mustang GT coupe nicely equipped for around $28k that will run in the mid to higher 13's? I can think of plenty of things to do with 12 grand worth of money.
And like Zoran said, the Shelby will be quicker with about the same price tag.
Not to mention you sold you did sell your vehicle on the hopes that it will make production. I would have waited a bit longer until it was definetley on the build list.

There is more to a car than acceleration times.

Like excessive weight?

Let try to keep the conversation civil guys,
everything is speculation on the challenger, no one is even sure if the car will be built.
Once a production car is announced, along with pricing and performance specs, we can debate which is better all day.

I said it before....go and try that side...we'll all be here with our Mustangs when you all come crawling back. Ford has always owned the Pony car market with the Mustang and always will. The Mustang has seen those guys(Challenger, Charger, GTO, Camaro) come and go in the past, and I predict it will again. Its a long way to 2009 and we will see some great special edition Mustangs by that time. Good day.

Dodge Charger RT
Base $29K
4031lbs
350-horsepower 5.7L Hemi V8
0-60 in 6.2 seconds
1/4-mile in 14.3 seconds
Dodge Charger SRT8
Base $35K
4200lbs
425-horspower 6.1L Hemi V8
0-60 in 5.4 seconds
1/4-mile in 13.5 seconds
Since the Challenger is based on the same platform as the Charger, why shouldn't we expect the same results?
