Question Deer/ Wildlife whistlers??

After reading about wildlife strikes (and seeing the BMW that hit a deer), I remember seeing "whistlers" that mounted on the front of a car thar made an inaudible (to humans at least) squeal to scare off wildlife so that you don't have to hit them. Do these work? Just curious, as I live in an area thick with deer and other critters.

I don't know about the deer, but the moose around here pretty much ignore everything and tend to move slowly if they do notice anything.

They don't work. Especially when they have deer hide on them.I saw quite a lot of wrecked trucks and cars in my company parking lot with the things on them .Still got the deer. When deer are in rut this time of year a fog horn won't stop them from crossing the road looking for some love.

Missouri state patrol did an experiment with them a few years back. Some cars with and some cars with out. What they found is that they will send deer running, sometimes away from the car, other times towards the car. Most times deer will just stand there, which is best. running away is better but towards the car is not. They decided not to use them to keep them from running into the cars.

We live out in the country and have tons of whitetail deer around here. A lot of local people I know tried those deer whistlers when they first came out, but AFAIK not many people use them here anymore. I've had more close calls than I can remember anymore, especially with often going to work at dusk and coming home at dawn, the times when the deer are on the move the most. Anymore when I see a deer close to the road I'll slow down, flash my lights and honk the horn, that usually startles the deer enough to get it moving on. The only time we've had a car hit by a deer was my wife's Escort about 12 years ago. She saw the deer running by the road and she actually stopped the car and the deer still ran into and went over the car. Minor dent in fender and that was it. Stupid deer. My sister lost a minivan to a deer 5-6 years ago.
