I'm pretty sure that Jeep is part of the overall deal. Jeep/Chrysler are pretty synonomis these days aren't they?

Following that reasoning, should we then include Dodge in the "package deal" too?

I read somewhere that Daimler wants to keep Jeep.

Yes. Notice that they keep saying Chrysler Group and not merely Chrysler. The Chrysler Group is Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep. If part of that is not for sale Mercedes has yet to say so. And most likely they would make something like that public since the spin associated with what might appear to be a last minute decision to keep Jeep, etc can be bad for the brand.

It is all up for sale, bet on it.

I think that is old news by now. Mercedes has been contemplating dumping Chrysler for some time now and I too remember hearing that they once intended to keep Jeep if that ever occured. But to be blunt DCX has mismanged Jeep terribly since then and that, combined with a declining market for hardcore suv's, has me betting that the soon to be Daimler Benz wants Jeep gone every bit as badly as Dodge and Chrysler at this point

$8 billion? Wow, that's low.

I still think Ford should buy just the Jeep name. Heck at $8 bill for all of Chrysler, they could pick up Jeep for under $2 bill if they go for just the name and a minimum of capacity. Then they should discontinue everything except the Wrangler, generally reduce the size of the division as far as they can. Then make the Jeep brand their only Domestic SUV wing. Tranistion all Ford, Linc, and Merc-brand SUV nameplates into more carlike crossovers, and maybe do a new larger Jeep based off a discount LR2 platform. Essentially, make Jeep the place to go for Ford domestic SUVs, and turn it into a feeder for up-market Volvo/Land Rover SUVs.

There is so much platform sharing I doubt that it could be sold as only Chrysler. Maybe Dodge would go along with it, but I think Dodge is good enough off with the product line they have. The Chryslers just look like dumbed down Dodges. Which is pretty pathetic since Dodge is by no means a luxury segment.

Jeep would probably come with the package. But Dodge has a pretty steady income with the trucks it builds and with it's steady sale of Vipers. I don't see why Mercedes would sell it.

Could just be me though.

Daimler got what they wanted from Mopar (namely cash needed during the period when Mercedes was in trouble a few years ago and the Jeep brand) and now that Mopar is in trouble, they dump them.

The good news is that Mopar has a chance to become American again, if a US company buys them, and they survive...

I'll buy them... lets see. I have 2 dollars and 12 cents in my pocket... think they will take that? or maybe they will sell me the Plymouth name only since they don't use it so i can build real Cuda versions of the new challenger.

Well DC paid $36 billion in ther merger, they listed the "sale price" at $8 billion, nand haven't gotten a bid over $5 billion that I've heard of. At that rate, it'sll be worth 2 dollars and 12 cents by the end of the year.

Let's pool our money - there, just added my $0.02. Only $2.10 to go.

actually your 2 cents would be added to my 2.12 so we have a total of $2.14. At this rate they will have a hard time turning down our offer.

It's time to roll this wreck of a company into the history books. I mean, have you SEEN the products they've been trotting out recently?

- The Crossfire was a joke that never caught on.

- The Pacifica never sold very well.

- The PT Cruiser is ugly.

- The traditional minivan market is now blowing goats, 'cause after all these years, no one wants to be caught driving an "uncool" minivan anymore; CUVs are taking over from that market.

- The 300 has begun to languish.

- Charger: not bad, but I don't see many on the road - better for fleets and cops.

- Magnum: never really took off. Don't see many of those, either.

- The Nitro is the ugliest looking POS since GM's Aztec abomination, IMHO.

- The Viper has LONG overstayed its welcome.

- The Sebring, well...<yawn>...I saw one once and almost fell asleep at the wheel. Caliber, Avenger...? Who cares?

- The Imperial concept (which they say now that they're gonna build) was a monstrosity of pilfered design cues.

Their only exciting vehicle is the Challenger concept, and it's not even out yet...and even once it is, can you say "niche vehicle"?

I'm sorry, but Chrysler's time has passed...

I didn't say buy Chrysler, I said just the Jeep brand name and the Wrangler model range production tooling. But it's more of a fantasy than anything.

Hollywood, I wouldn't even say the Chrager's all that good for Cops. Other than the big engine, it has nothing on CV's size and features, or the Chevy's nimbleness and traction.
