Chrysler readying Hellcat V8 with Viper-like power

A monstrous supercharged V8 engine could be in store for Chrysler and SRT products, if recent rumors are to be believed. Allpar is reporting that the forced-induction V8 – Chrysler's first, if this goes down – could make its debut this summer.
The story goes that the Hellcat would be based on a 6.2-liter Hemi engine, rather than on the existing 5.7- or 6.4-liter versions of the company's vaunted mill. In any case, the general consensus is that the motor will have gobs of power. Modest estimates call for between 500 to 570 horsepower, with some outliers predicting a figure as high as 600 hp. That figure would put the output of the Hellcat awfully close to that of the 640-hp V10 in the SRT Viper, too. Allpar contends that a slightly less powerful version would allow Chrysler to keep costs below that of the more powerful Ford Shelby GT500, which might be a sweet spot.

Buhahahahahahahahaha..... Jeez Mopar guys don't want much do they? sub 4,000 pound LX cars with 500hp for around 30k.
Now granted such a car would be a real game changer (hats of to Mopar if they could somehow meet the desires of their fans) but if Mustang and Camaro haven't done it I really doubt Chrysler is going reinvent the game.

I wouldn't drive the car if it's $30k. The only way to build that car for that price is to cut every freakin' corner imaginable. I'd be afraid it would fall apart as soon as I drove it off the lot.
Ha. Had a guy tell me a friend of his had an opportunity to drive one of the original Shelby Cobras; he was going to drive it from where it was stored to a garage where it was going to be cleaned up and prepped for auction. Apparently the guy had done something for the car's owner, and the owner let him drive it the 60+ miles as a show of his appreciation. He drove the entire way without seat belts. His reason was that he didn't want to live if he wrecked that car. LOL

If Chrysler does indeed produce a Challenger called a Hellcat it will sell well just because of the name. Ford should bring out a special edition high horsepower Mustang with a powerful name like Hellcat.
Id love to see the Challenger really enter the race. I love how they lok, nailed the modern retro note on the head. But its just too heavy compared to the Mustang and needs serious weight reduction if its gona be a big factor in the pony car wars
I don't see that happening since this Hellcat Challenger would be Dodge's entry into the same category as the GT500 and ZL1. I also don't think you would see such a car even close to loaded Mustang GT price territory given the cost of the SRT8 Challengers.
Besides if Ford really needs to dredge up a name, they always got King of the Road.
The main reason the Challenger is selling so low is the numbers arent on par with mustang and camaro. If the challnger were the same weight as the camaro woth the newer powerplants available it would be a much different story.
