Does anyone know the reason why Chevy ended production of Caprise at the end of 1996? They were always cool police cars and sales were not bad at all. In its final year, Chevy sold total of 69,096 Caprise Classic/Impala SS. Ford sold 108,252 Crown Victorias in 1996. It can't be because of that ... is it?

I think it was to increase production of their fullsize suvs in the plant that the Caprice was made.

That's correct. They converted the Caprice plant to build SUVs (Tahoes if I'm not mistaken). I remember the Impala SS crowd was pretty PO'd about it at the time.

After reading that article yesterday (Click Here) I'm not really sure that I want one. We'll see, I even started looking for a 05 Mustang V6.

I wouldn't trust a person who acts like a child when he has been proven wrong over and over. I think this person has shot all credibility by resorting to insult other board members.

I enjoyed the conversation with you because it was civilized but alas the thread was hikacked

Anyway, forgetting about that and moving on:

Definetley check around though and see what other owners have to say. The problems were few and far between and if you are buying from a dealer are most likely addressed.

Ask before you buy though, and always get a carfax report

I'll check out what my buddies (the mechanics) think about them and get back to you.

Thanks.
Only problems I heard that 1998-2000 Navigators have is rust (???). I went to Navigator discussion board and that's what they told me. That's why I'm looking for a 2001 Navigator.

No problem

I'll be completely honest with you. I don't know much about the Navi's save for specs and reliablity info. I think a 2001 would be a good idea if you have heard about issues with the 98-00's. It all depends on what you can find and what you like. Maybe the rust issues are more prevelant in the coast states. I know almost every car in NY where I used to live had rust. The salt from the ocean was just overwhelming :bang:

I'll try to call them when I have a chance, they're very honest and unbiased. They've never steered me wrong in 12 years of knowing them

Wisconsin's winters are not so bad (I drove Mustang though entire winter this year), but I'm also not planing to stay in Wisconsin for a very long time. I have two more year at college until I get my bachelor degree and then I'm moving somewhere west. I used to live before in Idaho and I loved it there.

First off, that switch is no longer used, second of all, out of all the millions of Ford vehicles sold with that switch, only roughly 500 of them had caught fire. That's less than 1%. Just thought I should clear that up.

Knowing my luck with cars, I will probably be one of those 1%.

As long you keep sending out them negative waves, you will be in the 1%!

Think positive!
