Chevrolet Shows Off 2012 Colorado

http://wot.motortrend.com/revealed-c...do-123409.html

Although we still haven’t heard any official confirmation from General Motors, it seems likely that a version of the new Chevrolet Colorado will make its way to the American market. Under its latest labor contract with the United Auto Workers, however, GM has agreed to build a “midsize truck” at a plant in Missouri, which we think is a strong sign the new Colorado will be coming to America. It would replace the aging Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon twins, which haven’t been significantly updated since 2004.

When we were out shopping for a truck for my wife to drive, her work requires her to be able to tow 5,000lbs, I REALLY wanted to get an F150 Ecoboost. However, the wife didn't want a full sized truck. She wanted a medium sized one. And I couldn't talk her out of it.

We looked at the Rangers, but no 4-door and the fact they're discontinuing production made that a non-option. Then we looked at the Chevy's. The front end was/is ugly as hell with that stupid turn signal over head light setup they have. This new one coming out is a little better, but now it looks like it has a Mazda3 in the gene pool.

Then we looked at the Dodge Dakota, but it lacked some of the "Must Have" options my wife wanted. Lighted vanity mirrors, Blue Tooth phone and Power Moonroof. The lack of blue tooth capability is simply unforgivable in this day and age.

I liked the 302hp/329tq rating on the 4.7L V8 in the Dodge, but **** do you pay the price for it in gas mileage. Real world figures put it at 13mpg in mixed driving while the 4.0L 261hp/281tq V6 in the Frontier gets a solid 15mpg and weighs over 100lbs less. The Dodge can tow 6700lbs while the Nissan can tow 6100lbs.

So after looking at and driving both trucks, it was a no brainer for both of us. The fit and finish, quality of materials, options and even overall performance was simply better on the Frontier. Not to mention, the overall styling of the Frontier is much sportier and attractive. Since it's built here in the U.S., I was able to convince myself it wasn't a bad thing to buy this truck. Also, the Frontier maintains a MUCH better resale value.

How about you didn't test drive Toyota Tacoma? Or even Honda Ridgeline. I heard pretty nice things about both of them.

the honda ridgeline is a under powered plastic heap. Tacomas are so boring and under powered.

I can testify that the ridgeline is a hunk of plastic crap... We make plenty of $$ on em... I love everything about the Tacoma except the lack of power, other than that... It's an awesome truck and blows rangers, colorados, and frontiers out of the water... I determine how sh!tty cars are by how often we have to work on them.

Aside from the corvette, the camaro, and most of the new caddys, all GM products are ugly as sin

It really looks like a minivan (minus the box) to me. For lack of a better word "soccermomish".

Flagstang has part of the answer. The under-powered V6 Tacoma can only tow 3500lbs. Did you miss where I said it had to tow at least 5,000lbs? The Ridgeline can tow exactly 5,000lbs, so that leaves no room for extra weight. Also, the Ridgeline is more of a "business mans" "truck." It's off road capabilities absolutely suck, it's a plastic POS. Ever ride in one that has 60k miles on it? Sounds like things are cracking and snapping if you hit a bump or just going over uneven pavement. No thanks.

I did extensive research before buying the Frontier.

I'm really surprised that Tacoma (even a V6) can tow only 3,500 lbs.

I was too. And disappointed. I could have dealt with the power output, but the lack of towing capabilities just killed that choice.

There's going to be a high stance version of the Colorado, and a low stance.

I can't comment which is which, but both will be produced and if I understand right sold at the same time
