Boy, gotta love the 510 figure. Just enough to be better than the Mustang but still be as far from the Viper as possible,

Still no greenlight on Challenger or Camaro, eh?

Maybe Challenger will have more horsepower, but it won't be faster. Too heavy.

Planning to one-up the Z06 would be my guess, as it would probably be priced closer to that than the viper.

Too bad the Z06 would kick the challengers big hiney around the block everyday. And the fact that by then the Z06 will probably be at 600hp by then.

The stock one looked cooler than that IMO, but overall the challenger is too big and too late.

While there's no doubt that SRT will have a Challenger variation, that article is just wishful thinking by MOPAR fans. Last time I checked, Chrysler was still on the fence about whether to even produce the Challenger (although they were leaning toward production).

I don't think the vehicle will even see production. I recall reading about a Chrysler exec who said something to the effect that they're still trying to determine if there's a serious business case for the Challenger. That is, will this thing sell well after the novelty has worn off? I'd wager the answer will be "no." Then again, they built the crap-tacular Crossfire, so who knows?

That's a sweet car, I can't wait to see just how close the production R/T is to the concept.

510 HP is some serious muscle, i'll be it'll be at least 45-50K
I don't like those colors as much, but still kick hiney.

If it gets that kind of power, what could the Viper be pushing by then... 700hp?

Pretty cool, if not too surprising. 500hp seems to be the minumum ante to sit at the top-performance car table these days anyways. Shame both the GT500 and, likely, the SRT8 Challenger will be saddled with so much dead weight. But cool, nonetheless!

Rumor Racing

This car hasn't even been given the green light for production and already they're future racing with everyone.

One thing the Mustang will always have that the Camaro and Challenger won't is regular joes wanting to buy. The Mustang appeals to a wide variety of people. When the 50,000 people who want a Challenger gets one, demand will go into a hole. Same with Camaro, except they'll sell probably 140,000 of those, IF they ever do go into production.

I suspect the eventual popularity and sales of the Camaro and Challenger will depend solely on how well executed the two cars are, with demand not being some preset quantity, but rather, a reaction to how good these cars are, or are not. Sure, their are many ways GM/DC could screw these cars up -- too pricy, too heavy, poor quality, etc. -- there's also every opportunity to do them right, and demand and sales will naturally reflect this, one way or the other.

I hope Ford does not take a smug and arrogant position that the Mustang will be somehow inately and inherently better than its upcoming competitors -- hubris rarely serves well as a competitive strategy.
