Challenger finally Released!
hood scoops appear fake.
Ignore it, outsell it, maybe give the Mustang a tiny more HP and wait until the other cars fizzle out again.
Most average people I talk to (non-motorheads) are talking about hybrids and gas mileage.
The Challenger is a nice powerful car.
If there were no Mustang and it cost under $30K for a 13.5 sec. 1/4 mile car, I might buy one.
The Camaro and the Challenger are both for toy usage only, not for the big selling numbers Detroit needs now.
All gripes about the exterior/interior aside, realize that a stock GT will run with, and maybe beat, the SRT. Granted I think it is a wonderful looking machine and I hope they sell really well, but a Mustang-Beater it ain't. And I may be in the minority here, but I think the mustang is better looking.

Plus it looks fantastic!
Of course, it's also a lot more money.
But the interior is truly dreadful - a typical Chrysler K-Mart interior...low rent and virtually identical to the Charger. As cheap as the Mustang interior is, it's far more stylish than the Challenger.
Pros:
- Exterior Styling looks great
- RWD V8 Coupe (us Mopar people have been waiting for this since the mid 80's -- about 25 years!)
- 425 hp version
- it's not a pony car anymore -- its a full size car
- weighs 4000 + lbs
- A sub $30k Mustang GT will run with it
- Expensive, limited production (hello dealer markups!)
Back in "The Glory Days of the Musclecar, When Big Blocks Ruled the Earth", only the American Motors Javelin went extinct quicker than the Dodge Challenger among the half-dozen or so Mustang imitations offered by GM, Chrysler, and Mercury. And that was a Challenger that had a 440 and the real Hemi as engine options. High-test gasoline was under $.80/gallon, too...
This car looks the same except for a reduced-calorie bodyline crease down each side. Not bad--but not nearly as purposeful as even the current 4-door Charger, and certainly not as slick as the '68 Charger. Where this car fails is the rental Caliber interior
. But at least the interior is not as grotesque as that transvestite interior they're putting in the new Camaro
.
This car ain't got long--millions could have been saved by creating a 2-door Charger with approximately the same dimensions as the Challenger, but with everything forward of the doors having already been developed for the 4-door Charger. That way, 4,140 pounds would not have seemed as preposterous as it does for a ponycar
.
What were they thinking
?
Or should I be asking "Why weren't they thinking?"

Wow.... you nailed it dead on!
I just turned in my rental 08 Chrysler 300 w/2.7 anemic V-6 and the Challenger interior is the same! Very cheap hard plastic everywhere. Heck they are so cheap that they won't even put a special steering wheel on this thing!. Leather wrapped with a cool SRT8 logo would have been a nice touch. how much could that have set them back? The Seats are like the Charger SRT8 and look very nice though. It's wayyyy.. to heavy though!
I am anxious to see the New Mustang interior especially now that Challenger and Camaro are kinda cheap looking. Ford is doing a nice job with all the interiors now and the Mustang should be nice also. The new Taurus, F 150 and Explorer have come a long way.
