Challenger finally Released!
Challenger finally Released!
I'm liking it. I think it looks pretty good. Except the interior. Yuck. I think i've rented a few dodges that looked the exact same inside. The seats are nice though. Again for 40,000 they could have put in a nicer interior. Also for a 6.1l Hemi you think it could do better than low 5's 0-60. That doesnt seem all to impressive for the top model.
I am really loving the Challenger but for the fact that there's a whole lot to love, 4,140lbs worth. That makes even the porcine GT500 seem positively svelte and lithe.
It does have a great suspension -- multilink short and long arm suspension up front, a five-link independent suspension with multiple bushings out back -- to better enable it to control all that mass than the rather pedestrian underpinnings of the GT500, and massive Brembos to bring it all to a halt. But all that mass will, inevitably, blunt its performance potential to some real degree, simple physics really.
However, the exterior styling is fantastic, just amazing how Chrysler can bring showcars to showrooms seemingly immune to the usual degradations to production "necessities" that other manufacturers use to excuse their less than adroit translations.
But I hope this gorgeous dinosaur doesn't hit a KT boundary of EPA and CAFE standards, not to mention $3+ dino juice to feed its 6.1 liter belly.
Never the less, great to have it on the performance car scene, along with the soon to appear Camaro. It will be really interesting to see how Ford responds to these very formidable challengers with its 2010 refresh, presumably out in early '09.

They just wanted to make it easy to spot since youll have to be filling this thing up at every station. with an estimated 13/18mpg. Im almost afraid to think of what kinda numbers it will actually get with real world driving... its gonna be almost viper-bad.
Who cares what the interior looks like?? We drive Mustangs,it's not like we're spoiled with excellent interiors,i care about the BADASS looks and the 425HP,oh did i mention the looks,oh by the way,did you see how awesome that car looks.............I'm in love. Daddy want.
By the way,i like the interior. It may be cheapish, but it looks like a real car,not like a cartoon interior like in the current Mustang and it's not so weird it's kinda cool, but still ugly interior like in the Camaro. I want this car.badly.

those seats look pretty awesome
Ok so it looks awesome but weighing in at 4140 is ridiculous. I mean the simple fact that it's mid to high 13's with a 6.1L and 13/18 mpg (meaning you will always be getting 14) it just isn't worth it. Plus that interior is so incredibly boring. I have to say I had originally thought I would be tempted by either the challenger or camaro but as things stack up I am surprisingly bored. The challenger looks fantastic but just has to many downsides comparably (not even to start on price) and the camaro I just can not feel the exterior. I surprisingly prefer it's bizarre interior to this but would prefer the current mustangs to all three. My new fear however that is increasing rapidly is that I am going to want the next gen stang which my budget simply can not afford!
yeah..the interior isnt retro at all...which is really dissapointing since that was the purpose of this car...

Now if only I had enough money to have my stang, the challenger and the new camero all at the same time.
