"Stick around for the '09 Camaro launch," was Meyer's response, both of us grinning and trying to catch our breath. He said he'd already turned a 12.0 at 120 mph at the drag strip with this thing and that the new Camaro should do almost as well, despite weighing about 500 pounds more than this car.

Umm, quarter million+ one-off has nothing to do with a street car, stupid. What would a Mustang do with a emissions-be-****ed tune, gears, God only knows what one-off widgets, and 500lbs less weight
Half of the stuff in the styling would not work in real-world use, so why keep showing show cars and lets see at least a real mule.

From what I can gather from Camaro sites, there will be a base model V-6, a SS model with LS3 engine (corvette) 400-450HP, and a shelby GT500 fighter called the Z-28 with a supercharged LS3 or LS7 (Z06). The latter one may have those impressive numbers but will be quite expensive. In any case, the 09 Camaro is intented to be competitive with the mustang price wise.
... and the Camaro will end world hunger, solve global warming and bring world peace when it gets here
.
All you guys who buy into all this hype need to come back to reality.... It sure seems like GM has been hyping the Camaro as much as they can for the last three years or so. So far it's vaporware.

IMO, creating so much hype about the car isn't the greatest idea. People will either be bored with the design or underwhelmed by the time it is finally released. I'm sure they will sell atleast more than the GTO though. I would doubt that the Camaro will get the LS3 considering the Corvette is getting it, so they will want to keep the Corvette a step up from the Camaro, which would probaby just have the LS2. I wouldn't doubt seeing some sort of LS7 variant though.
Making that 12.0 comment was kind of a little genius way to hype up the car. They know full well that that comment will probably fly around and get distorted, in which case you'll have Chevy guys at your next car show bragging that the new Camaro is going to be a 12.0 car.

GM insider admits that 12.0 sec Camaro is bull****
Detroit- A GM insider whose name we withheld, has talked to editors here in Autoblog. He admits that the Camaro concept used actually had installed a twin turbo/nitrous system into the engine to fool their gullible customers into thinking that the "stock production" engine was 12.0 sec capable.
"Okay, I'll admit it, it does run 12.0 secs," he said, "but on the eight mile. However, in order to sell products, we have to stretch the facts. That's what GM is all about"

Sounds familiar. Remember the hype about the Bullitt? However, in the past, Camaro always got the Vette engine a year later than the Vette. So, if you want to know whats in the Camaro for 09, take a good look at whats in the Vette for 08.

Secondly that yellow car shares nothing in common with the Concept except looks. Its a GTO with the body removed and built by none other than Saleen himself and the whole body is fiberglass. If it went 12.0 it's probably because it weighs alot less that either concept with stock LS2's.
Thirdly for those thinking that the Camaro will not recieve the vette engine have seemed to forget that the Camaro has recieved every corvette engine except for the old LS6 454, and the LT5. LT1 (old), L98, The old crossfire injection junk, LT1 (new), LT4, LS1, LS6, the LS3 will be no different nor will the LS9 6.2L supercharged that is going into this "SS" or whatever it is called and that is already in a Cadillac.
Right now any specualtion is just that specualtion. Until final specs are released no one knows the exact weight, gearing, or even final HP specs on it.
No GM person insider, or whatever, ever said that. First off the Camaro is limited to 40 MPH and 3k rpm's that wouldn't make it 12 seconds in the 1/16th of a mile and GM has not let the car been driven off the proving grounds and it has never been floored. And all that twin turbo nitrous BS is exactly what you said in the first line BS. The concept Camaros have never been modified outside a stock LS2 configuration period. All the electronics in the trunk would make any type of junk like that near impossible and lastly do you think GM would actually let someone put a bunch of junk on a couple million dollar plus concept. No. Lastly twin turbo/nitrous on a LS2 would make it a 10 second or faster car anyway.

I think he was just joking...and the whole Corvette engine thing was already stated...just saying...
