Surprised I can't find any topics on the rumored return of the camaro here. I heard 2007 there will be a sporty chevy coupe, possibly named camaro. According to these rumors, the car is nearly done, and is at a point where only minor changes can be made. The sketches on the net, which are supposed to lend credence to this rumor since they show design similarities, are very retro looking. Who thinks there is any truth to this?

I've been watching Camaro boards for a while and there seems to be little solid evidence of a Camaro's return. Lutz has also publicly stated the Camaro will NOT return. Most GM enthusiasts are currently very discouraged.

The only recent good news for the GM boys was in an article in The Globe and Mail (Canadian newspaper), it said that the Oshawa plant would begin to produce RWD vehicles (can't remember if they said sports car or not) and mentioned the Camaro name.

But this could have been the author making assumptions.

There is by no means a Camaro already fully developed IMO.

Now, logic does tell me that we should expect to see something by 2008 MY from GM equivalent to the Camaro.

1967 MY = GM catches up.

2005 MY = Amazing new Mustang comes out.
2007 MY = GM catches up?

I read somewhere that the deal made with the union workers at the old Camaro plant included a clause that the Camaro wouldn't be built at any other plant.

Yeah, I think that clause lasted for a 10 year duration after production stopped at the plant.

After the 10 years the Camaro could be built anywhere.

I have said this before and say it again... word is GM has secured the rights to the Chevelle name... if they make a Chevy twin to the GTO, it might as well be the 'velle

GM is planning at least a half a dozen RWD cars in North America, built on the new Zeta platform. There will be a coupes, sedans, and convetibles. There will be V6s and V8s. There will be AWD optional on some. There will be Chevrolets, Buicks, and Pontiacs. This platform will also be shared with Holden, Daewoo, and probably Opel and Saab, and account for 350,000+ sales world-wide.

And yes, one of those cars will be the new MY2008 Camaro/"Chevelle". Others built in North America will be a new Impala, Monte Carlo, "Roadmaster", "Velite", GTO/"Tempest" and "G8".

I was reading up on this, and the reason I posted was because I read the ste therese plant was torn down, and that was supposed to relieve gm of the obligation not to build the camaro. I also came across some thread saying 'on monday there will be news, and it will be good' and so on, later I found a link to this topic in another thread, but did not have permission to access it. I was on cheers and gears forum, http://www.cheersandgears.com/boards/topic...?TOPIC_ID=14016, but I don't see where they "show what they have". Makes me wonder what they have.

edit: can't spell

I believe that the new Camaro has been hush hush because of the contract GM had in Canada. It was an interest free mulitbillion dollar deal if GM kept the FBody cars cars in
production until sometime in 2007.

Heres the story.
