Skimming through it now, but one thing stood out, 57k base price plus 1300 GG tax, and perhaps a moot point but the ZL1 is drag limited to 180 mph. 4.1 0-60 and so far 12.3 @ 119 mph

Yeah, that seems like a no-brainer. I would have thought that they could have avoided the GG tax. It will be good to see the complete specs on the car and compare the gearing, Cd, et al to the GT500. If gearng and Cd are comparable then weight is most likely the factor since both engines do not employ VVT or cylinder decativation.

The MR dampers are a really nice feature on the ZL1 and counted alot toward its performance.

What's crazy is the power that these vehicles are putting out - ZL1 580hp and GT500 650 hp and yet the Porsche Turbo S is 520 hp and does 0-60 in 2.6 seconds.
yes i know the price diff is HUGE... and the porsche is AWD but my point is why the need for so much HP and not able to get awesome times because of traction.
btw i drove that turbo s and its amazing...i've never felt anything like it and i ride motorcycles. for a car to take off like that is just insane.
for the GT to do 4.4 secs and the GT500 3.7 secs with over 200 extra hp in it.
there comes a point where you have to much power to put to the street and not really worth it.
the power that these cars are making these days are just insane! sure will be a fun few years.
BTW i dont know who in their right mind would buy a camaro with that interior- seriously.

And the difference in performance has little to do with price and a whole lot to do with weight.
ZL1 = 4,120 lbs
GT500 = 3,920 lbs
911 Turbo S = 3,461 lbs

But I agree that these cars are getting more than enough power. But traction systems are the future and with great power comes great traction control responsibility.

Yeah i know why porsche can lay down great numbers based on drivtrain- im just saying out loud that were limited by our RWD cars with traction. Im sure the shelby would lay down awesome numbers with slicks on it but with a street tire you can only do so much.

the porsche will do 2.6--2.7
at the end of the day if im only 1 sec behind a porsche thats 170k with my 55k shelby...i will have the biggest smile ever

Comes to show that at last the guys at the Camaro team got their sh*t together, Bravo! I really like it. Respect for the competition is one of the most important things and the ZL1 gets it without a doubt. Great job guys

Whereas judging what gets the attention in the car world lately, it seems that new drivers want a spaceship type experience where they push some buttons and let the computer drive on semi-auto pilot while they lolly gag out the window or on their device.
Delivering near-Vulcan Mind Meld levels of communication with the driver, the Boss also requires anti-matter engineer levels of attention.
When picking up the throttle, the live-axle was surprisingly planted, but still allowed a bit of right-foot steering.
The Mustang is rewarding to drive, but it's constant work.

I WANT to throttle steer when I choose. Choosing and keeping a line from a combination of gear choice, rpm range, and throttle steer - not from a computer making choices for me.
I WANT to be a DRIVER - not a computer geek that pushes a pedal or button and then doesn't need to pay total attention because the "little box has got it". Might as well just play a video game.
And back in the day many NA guys would dis Ford's use of superchargers (me incl). I didn't see too much downplaying of Cam's supercharger vs the Boss' NA in this apples and oranges comparison. Yet the Boss was right on Camaro's heel even though NA was less powerful.

Is there a reason why Motor Trend always takes less-powerful and less-expensive Mustang when they compare it to the competition?
I remember when the Challenger came out - Motor Trend was comparing $47,000 425 hp Challenger SRT-8 vs $31,000 315 hp Mustang Bullitt instead of Shelby GT500.
Why are they comparing Camaro ZL1 to Boss 302 now and not Shelby GT500?
