That's incorrect... a company owns a trademarked name for "x" years (I forgot how many) after they stop using it.

What you are probably thinking about is a supposed agreement with the CAW that they would build the Camaro for 20 years in Canada as part of the loan guarantee to keep the plant open. I am not too sure about that story myself.
