How do you honestly look at previous years car and say lets do this to such an amazing looking classic. One of my all time favorite cars is destroyed by a company trying to capitalize off a legendary name sake. If they would have called it something else then maybe but to call this ugly bus a Charger is just wrong.

Definitely have to agree with you there. Saw a really nice blue one when I in Florida last time while I was driving a rental V6 Mustang. This is one of the better pics I've found. The GTO name just doesn't fit.

I don't know why everyone is complaning about new GTO. Its an awesome car. Why was GTO name ruined? Because new GTO it doesn't look anything like old GTO? So what. GM should introduce more engines to GTO, maybe even V6 and pair of V8.

the gto is too bland (even car & driver said so) and they want too much money for it, even though it has a lot of power...the charger, I was horrified when I first saw it...it is basically a magnum sedan that is fugly lookin..only good thing is the optional hemi...thses cars have great engines and that is the only great thing about them.

IMO:
I think the major issue is not the cars performance but the body and styling(more correctly, the lack there of). I've seen it up close and personal and it's not an "ugly"car but the fact that is has the GTO emblem is wrong. There is NO way of mistaking a 2005 Mustang for any other car on the road. The GTO is easily mistaken for a new Grand Prix, Grand Am & even a Cavalier(I'm sure there a few I missed). Pontiac's designers should have come up with something better for the namesake. The same holds true for the 2006 Charger a.k.a Dodger Magnum or Chrysler 300C.

Putting a better engine in it still won't change the fact it looks like these other cars.

Performance wise

Back in old days, it was easy to mistake a Pontiac GTO for a Tempest or Le Mans. In fact , it's easy to make GTO clones out of more common Tempests and Le Mans by changing the badging and taillights, and adding the hood with a scoop , depending on the year.
The original Pontiac GTOs looked like the common Pontiacs of the time. So I don't know why this is such a big complaint about the current GTO. Do people not remember how a 1964 GTO and 1964 Le Mans/Tempest look nearly identical except for some fake scoops on the GTO hood?

The GTO is at least true to the original concept of the 1964 GTO (2 door midsize car with a V8) and people complain that it looks like every other Pontiac.

The new Dodge Charger is kind of like putting a V8 in a Ford 500, adding a different grill treatment and bright colors and calling it a Mustang. I'm expecting a Hemi powered Dodge Durango being passed off as a Road Runner next.
