Doug, according to one web site (Click Here) General Lee had 440 in it. But for filming, they also used 383 and 318.

I was partially right
I dunno guys I can't get into this dukes thing..I hated the tv show and really am not thrilled with them smashing the crap out of 300 classic muscle cars

Seems like a real waste to me. And that paint job..holy smoke what an ugly thing

as for the movie for movies sake well it just shows that holywood is completely out of ideas.

Anyway i hope those that are fans enjoy it. This is one of many I'll pass on.

Its just like the Eleanor's used in "Gone in Sixty Seconds" All but one were 302's. The one they used as the "star" with only minimal movement was a 428 SCJ.

None of the Mustangs were real Shelbys other than junk one at end when Nicolas Cage took Angelina Jolie for a ride.

Interesting thing is, Ford didn't offer 302 in Mustang in 1967.

The reason hollywood is bringing this back is because they can make alot of money from people who love the show (here in the u.s.) and internationally where the rest of the world never heard of the tv show...

No none of them were real Shelby's (thankfully) but the one they used as the "promo" piece and a few shots did have a 428 SCJ under the hood.

Well how did they use 302 in those 1967 replicas when Ford didn't offer 302 on Mustangs in 1967?

I woke up, flipped on the TV, channel surfed and hit MTV with Jessica Simpson doing "These boots were made for walkin" for the Dukes of Hazzard soundtrack. Ummmmmm, the fact she was washing a car in a bikini most of the time didn't hurt but it still was crapola.

General Lee is too heavy! Those Shelby's wouldn't have a problem keeping up with him around corners & dirt roads.

Like Knight said 302 crate motors were used. These cars they used were basically rolling chassis when the production company bought them.

Also 68's were used during some of the filming too, due to not having enough 67's in supply and the differences were so minimal that the audience wouldn't know.

They were stripped and given a quick job on the ground effects and paint. The 302 was used due to it being lighter yet potent enough to perform stunts.

All of this was in an issue of Mustang Monthly about 2 years ago.

Using a 1967 Mustang with an original 289 would kind of be pointless. That would be kind of like skeet shooting with fine china
