No doubt but that car czar comment just means another 200K position with probably a several million dollar budget with several million in support staff to boot. Wish they had this kind of oversight with the financial sector and their celebratory activities.
The loans aren't certain yet, but likely.
And they won't be enough.
Meanwhile, Chris Dodd is calling for Rick Wagoner's resignation as part of the deal. Dodd spoke on CBS' Face the Nation today >>
“I think you have got to consider new leadership,” Dodd said. Asked if that should be a condition of any bailout, he added, “I think it is going to have to be part of it.”
And they won't be enough.

I heard that Buick, GMC and Pontiac are history in here somewhere along with the Camaro..
I hope that is enough to get them past the 2009 recession. Maybe the big three need to just shut down every plant for 30 days just to show the Washington crooks what they are dealing with. They are quick to hand over 750B bailout $$$ to their banker cronies but let real Americans ask for a loan that will be paid back, and they are suddenly mean and nasty. Hang on folks 09 might be a rough year.
I expect the Government bailout for the auto industry to come in between 50 to 100 billion. The issue is that people aren't buying cars and they won't until 2010. The Big 3 will come back for more once Obama gets in office.

Just read this was part of the bill:
"Part of the bill also stipulates that if the Detroit 3 accepts these loans, they must promise to stop pursuing litigation aimed at striking down California's right to set its own emissions standards and other states' right to adopt them. The California Air Resources Board has created emissions standards the are generally more strict than federal standards, and so far 17 states have chosen to adopt the Golden State's measures."
The Big 3 will definitely be back for more money if that stipulation stands.

It's getting even uglier. GM has their backs against the wall--for the first time, GM executives are acknowledging bankruptcy as an option.

From the tone of this article, Chrysler is toast and in order to get funding, GM might be forced into a merger with Chrysler--willing or not. There may be so many strings attached to the bail-out that (long-term) bankruptcy might be the better option.

According to Senator Jeff Session the bill as written is closer to 49
.
So if the automakers are only getting 15 where is the rest going
.
Something seems a little screwy to me.
