I guess I wasn't specific enough so you can post a new one.

Escort was first FWD USA Ford, but the answer I was looking for was a 1961 Ford Cardinal (first FWD Ford), later known as Ford Taunus in Europe. Fiesta followed up in 1976.

Your turn.

man, I wasn't expecting to be right... better think of something quick..

whats the difference in rear frame rail spacing between a '65 Mustang and a Mustang II?

edit: lost part of my post.. I had no idea they were making FWD cars that early. I wasn't sure if Fiesta or Escort came here first.

Excellent thread idea btw

Double edit: my question is a bit too specific I think. How about two differences between '74 IIs to '75+ IIS

Kinda off-topic, but this 1961 Cardinal was originally intended for the USA only. It was built by Ford Germany and Ford's idea was to compete against Volkswagen Beetle.
However, when Lee Iacocca became Ford's president in the late 1950s, he traveled to Germany and hated this car. It was a very advanced car for its time, but Iacocca knew that American public won't be buying a FWD I4 car designed in Germany.
So he talked with Henry Ford II and managed to persuade him to allow him to build something that American public would like. And Falcon was born, which ended up being a huge success for Ford.

Since Ford already had Cardinal prototype, they renamed it Taunus and went on sale in Europe in 1962. It had a lot of success.
