i mean is there any way to tell if an alternator was used for a week or so?

there would be black soot or power coming out of the vanes if it were used for an extensive period of time

 

Should be able to look at the mounting tabs to see if it was at least mounted up. The pully should also have some paint rubbed in the grooves, the rest can be cleaned up easily. A little harder to resurface the mounting tabs and paint the pully groves even but all possible as well.

 

think i could get away with returning a week old alternator to advance auto ? ;p

I'd think it would depend on who you talk to at Advance Auto. If you get a gearhead who knows something about cars you've a much better chance of getting busted.

 

cuz i could get a 200amp alt for 220 bucks but needed a functional car for the week so spent 310 with tax for a 135amp one from advance auto..

il probably just keep it before i get stuck with 2 alternators and end up spending 500+ ;p
