New issue of Autoweek had a little blurb about a new documentary movie on the "U.S. Express."
A follow-on to the old Cannonball races.
It is scheduled for release in the Fall or 2005
Here's the link to 32 Hours 7 minutes, the time it took to go from New York to LA.

Sweet, (and this'll make some of ya feel old, but that took place only 6 days after I was born!) I've heard of something similar in Europe that is still going on today, the Gumballer...
And if any sheik offers a million bucks to race from LA to NY, I'm there B)

But with my luck, I'd have a screw stuck in a tire before I left the driveway--Duh! :bang:

Black, yeah they are in those, he broke a couple of ribs and disloacted his shoulder and sprained his neck in the wreck! Flipped it end over end like 3 or 4 times!

there's a guy in my industry in that trailer - Will Wright. He's the creator of "The Sims" video games. Anybody happen to know why he's in the film?

You feel old? I am old. I was a subscriber to Car & Driver when Brock Yates first thought it up. Cannonball Baker set the first transcontintal record on a motorcyle when the roads were still dirt. In fact, the "official" name of the event was the Cannonball Baker Sea to Sea Memorial Trophy Dash.
Yates and Gurney won it one year in a Ferrari Daytona. Gurney got stopped in Arizona and the officer asked him how fast the car would go. After they were back on the road Gurney told Yates that they were going to find out, and hit 172. According to Yates, when they finally arrived the car was littered with empty cups and discarded fast food wrappers.
My favorite story, including all the ones about guys in priest collars, etc, is the one about the guys who missed winning by only a few minutes because they took a wrong turn in LA. Thet had answered an ad in the Wall Street Journal from a man who wanted his Caddy driven across country. He had specified that the car was not to be driven above the speed limit and not at night, so when they got to LA in just over a day, they had to cool their heels for a few days before they could deliver the car.
I did a trip from North Carolina to California in two and a half days back in 1972 driving a 1970 SS350 Camaro. I had to stop because I had my wife and dog in the car, but I still tought it was pretty quick.
