As those of you who watch AHR regularly already know, they seem to do a new project and then show a project re-run. Well, after the next re-run project, (it's the mustang i think) a new project will begin, and boy what a doozy. It begins with the usual stuff with Boyd and Duane digging in a landfill and pulling some horribly aged hunk of steel out of about two feet of mud and taking it back to the shop. Then you have the usual congregation of employees outside as it's being unloaded off the tow truck, all making various comments. Skip to the next day with the guys working on the car with the usual insane deadline (8 weeks) and talking about how much work they have and Duane yelling at them for something minute. Suddenly we see none other than a newly slim Bluebear! Apparently he and Boyd had been working out him coming back to the shop, and had also been working out their differences (Bluebear basicly says he had to tell Boyd he was 100% right about the whole rat rod thing). Throughout the episode, Boyd has problems with Thomas, and then a very intense conversation with Mike. Things continue to escalate, and during one of Boyds asanine "pep talks", both Thomas and Mike apparently don't tell Boyd what he wants to hear, (stuff like, you're the greatest of all time), and in an absolute shock, he takes them into his office and fires them both. Being very shorthanded, Boyd and Duane have to put in big hours if they're going to make the deadline, actually working on the car with the other guys. Roy eventually agrees to even wire the car to help out. As the car nears completion, Duane and the guys are standing around as Duane does some fine tuning of the wireing. Apparently Roy's wiring job wasn't too good, and Duane recieves quite a shock which causes a sycronized bowel and bladder evacuation. Duane ends up being fine, the cameras even follow Boyd to the hospital to check on Duane whose embarrassed but generally alright. In an amazing show of unity, the crew manages to finish the car in the 11th hour with Boyd getting misty at the end because he's never been prouder of any group he's ever had. This episode should air July 1st.
Nice post!!
Just another reason I keep losing respect for Boyd Coddington.
Basically he's an egotistical jerk. He'll find out soon what happens when he has nobody left to turn to. No wonder Foose left.
I'll watch Chip work his magic, at least he's down to earth and has a good heart. Unfotunatley I'm sure AHR's ratings are soaring due to this "mishap."

When was Bluebear fired? What car were they working on during that time? I must've missed that episode. Since Charlie left, Thomas was only cool guy on the show, but I guess he's leaving too.

Who in gonds name would want to work for this slave driver....i have no idea.

Chip left when Boyd went bankrupt and didn't come back when they started to rebuild the business. God forbid someone disagrees with Boyd or has an original idea of their own. Charlie "seemed" like a really great guy and Boyd tore him apart. I'm in the military and we are more flexible. I want to (and plan on) use copies of the show as leadership training tools for junior personnel who are coming up on what "NOT" to do. Boyd has a god complex and I hope these shows backfire on him and people start to go to other builders, like Chip.
I found this on Chip:
Growing up in Santa Barbara, Foose worked under the watchful eye of his father Sam Foose, himself a master bodyman. At the age of 13, Foose had painted his first car, a Porsche 356. He continued to refine his skills in all aspects of metal shaping and body work. In 1990, his expertise led to a coveted staff design position with famed hotrod builder, Boyd Coddington. There, he was instrumental in creating the acclaimed Boyd look, eventually becoming company president and director of design. Foose reveled in his time there, working with Coddington’s talented and fastidious crew. While there, he is credited with massaging such cars to life as the famed “Speedstar†and “Boydsters One and Two,†then design trademarks of the shop. Unfortunately, in the end, even fine vehicles such as these couldn’t help to salvage Hot Rods by Boyd, and in 1998 the company went bankrupt. At that moment, Foose himself faced an uncertain future.

Now I don't know if this is because they are on the show and don't want to make Chip mad but here is an interview with the two other host from Overhaulin' talking about Chip.
CA: How's the show dynamic? Do you get along off camera as well as you get along on it?
Courtney: Absolutely we get along. Chip Foose kind of sets the tone, and he does not believe in conflict. There are lots of other shows on TV that are all about that, and I guess they believe that adding drama is going to make it so much more exciting. In this case, Chip doesn't go for that, and everyone kind of rises to his level, not only of his work ethic, but also his disposition.
Chris: For his level of talent, he's the most humble guy I've ever met. He's absolutely unflappable, and so gracious with everyone he talks to. He'll take the time for anybody, and try to help them out any way he can.
Courtney: And you find that we're all working crazy hours, under time constraints, and we're exhausted, but there's never a moment that we're in conflict. It's always about camaraderie, and doing this for the common goal.
Chris: [Chip's] an amazing guy; his brain never shuts off. He sits down for lunch, and starts redesigning the salt shaker. That's the way he works. If he had 40 hours in a day, he wouldn't be able to get done everything he needs to get done. Walking around SEMA, he understands and appreciates how much he's loved in the industry. Because he can't walk ten feet without someone walking up and telling him how great he is, and it's absolutely true. He's Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, and Eric Clapton all rolled into one.
On one other note, Chip Foose has won 3 Ridler awards. Well, the people he built them for won. Still him though.

I for one, simply stopped, watching his stupid unrealistic TV show. And along with Foose's (who I do like) build it in week. Yeah sure. Make the circuit shows and be back for another build for next weeks show. And try to get a classic rebuilt. It takes months at best and most of those works turn into a few years if your lucky.

But no matter how much we like/don't like Boyd, we gotta admit that cars he builds look awesome at the end. Especially that 56 Chevy. At least I like those cars.

Yeah, yeah, I saw that too. And the next morning Boyd came to "work" and said "Man, I'm so tired." That's the same episode when he fired that guy because that guy (I don't remember his name) said to Duane "Do it yourself."

that's true, but anyone can build a beautiful car if they have 10 talented guys building it for them and hundreds of thousands of dollars to throw at it....
A perfect example is the guy who owns Piazza Honda here. He has no clue about cars at all, yet he "runs" the business, and badly I might add.
The simple fact is that I think Boyd has lost his touch. He was brilliant and very talented and still may be but he let it go to his head.
