The alpine A110 is one of my new favourite cars! I caught a glimpse of it in a car book i saw in france and fell in love with it. Didn't know anything about it, just saw the name. And then like a month ago, i got an awesome french car magazine, the french version of EVO, and they've got an article comparing the A110 to the new Renault Clio V6 ( which is a bit of a monster hatch). The A110 only weighs 715kg! That's under 1600lbs! Its cause its got a fiber glass body. But ya, 1600lbs, rear mounted 138hp four-cylinder, rwd... talk about a fun car.

As for what they were actually driving in that video??? I dunno... its a little hard to say. I woulda felt more comfortable in a tiny car like the alpine than in a big ferrari. A little less conspicuous too.

Okay... i just did my own little measurement. The dude goes around the arc de triomphe, and then flies down the champs elysées, which is this crazy wide straight road, that's part of this line that basically connects a bunch of monuments, including the obélisk (that tall skinny thing like in washington) which is where he turns off to the right after that long straight. He does that straight in about exactly a minute. The distance between the arc and the obélisk is about exactly 2 kilometers, so that's an average of 120 km/h or 75mph.
Just to check, i tried the same trick for that first straightaway, about 38 seconds for 1.25km, which works out to 118km/h, so pretty much the same thing. It was a shorter straightaway, but less traffic so he was able to open up a bit more.
You should try following along with that video while scrolling along on a google satelite image, its darn fun. You get lost a couple times, gotta back it up a bit for those crazy intersections where he could've gone down any one of like 8 different streets.

darn PIGEONS!

Whether it was an Alpine or a 275GTB is really moot to me. It didn't look like the car was traveling at speeds over 100 mph either. Nonetheless, the video is still incredible!
