2014 Volkswagen Golf Mk VII
This is basically what it might look like.
Engine choices for Europe will be 1.2L, 1.4L and 2.0L petrol (all turbo) and 1.6L and 2.0L diesels. We will most likely get 2.5L petrol and 2.0L diesel again. GTI and Golf R will share 2.0L turbo engine producing 220 hp (GTI) and 300 hp (Golf R).
For the first time, a hybrid and electric Golf will be offered.

Golf never was, but that might be the reason why almost 28 million of them were sold around the world since 1974. They never experimented too much and usually went for the safe move.

They might do that in the USA (after all, Jetta is posting some really high sales numbers), but not in Europe. In Europe interior quality is one of the most important things in a new car.
Ummm, pleasant.
Rather dull, but pretty much what I was expecting. VW designs have never been about cutting edge though. Solid and reliable, but neither ugly nor bland. In Europe, it's still the benchmark for all others though, but the others are catching up!
Having said that, I really do think the latest Passat is a step back from the car it replaced.

I'm really starting to like Volkswagens. If you would only improve their quality ...
I didn't think of them much before I bought my Golf, but overall it's a great car. Not best looking, not most powerfull, not the economical, but if put everything together and overall I think it beats all the competition.
Yesterday I went for a ride in my bosses 2011 Mazda3 2.5. I was so disappointed especially because Mazdas are considered the sportiest and most fun to drive. Mazda3 was very noisy and uncomfortable, I would take Golf over Mazda3 any day.
I still haven't driven the new Focus and seeing how much they charge for it - I'm not planing to, it's just too expensive.

When the new Focus came out everybody loved it (same with Taurus), but now those same magazine started to tell us that it may not be perfect after all.
