It may not be the 'top dog,' but it would be my choice if I was to purchase a 2014 Challenger . . . .

The 2014 Dodge Challenger R/T Shaker packs the same 5.7-liter Hemi V8 as the standard Challenger R/T, but upgrades the business end with a through-the-hood exposed cold-air intake system. The retro hood scoop protrudes from the center of the hood in satin black (matching the decklid spoiler) to feed the Hemi and shakes with the engine just like the original from 1970. The Shaker model also comes with a Super Track Pak that adds a new steering rack, brake linings, shocks and 20-inch Goodyear Eagle F1 Super Car rubber. You can also shut off the stability management system completely in this car. A series of interior and exterior trim enhancements round out the look. The whole package adds $2,500 to the price of a Challenger R/T Classic for an all-in MSRP of $36,995.
I never understood the R/T. it's between a SRT8 and a V6, but has softer suspension, less power, cheesier stripes. Who the hell was the target market for those? The "all I want is a V8 at any cost, but not SRT8 cost"? They don't even compete with GT's or SS's. IMO, Dodge should have just dumped the SRT8 name and made the R/T the top dog model, just like the old days. And WTF is the point of adding the shaker hood to the R/T and not the SRT8?! What the hell are those marketers thinking?!
well considering I owned the srt8 version think about it this way
I want a v8 muscle car but don't want to pay the extra for suede seats and different suspension and wheels.
my brother owns a 2010 rt and I sold my 2009 srt and have driven both and hard... the difference between the two is not great.
its basically a boss vs gt.... I don't notice any difference between it

Whelp you've just described every Mustang GT owner out there as this is the "GT" version of the Challenger.
If the SRT8's objective is to dive into shelby market, well, they have failed miserably as all they bring to the table is more weight less power and boat dimensions. Gotta say though, they look better than any mustang ever built and sound better too.
It's just hard to convince myself that the SRT8 is Dodge's answer to the GT500 and Zl1. If the SRT8 had atleast a hint of competition against these two, then the R/T would make sense. But with .7 liters less, 90 hp less, and 6-8k less, it just doesn't fall into any sane market.
And this doesn't go to the Chally alone; I speak of all 5.7's versus their SRT8 couterparts.
I won't convince anyone either way here but I think most enthusiasts miss the point of the Challenger entirely.
Stop comparing it to the Camaro and Mustang all together. It's in a class all it's own. It's a boulevard bruiser. Fast enough, comfortable and roomy.
I love the Challenger for everything that it is, not what it isn't. What it isn't is a Mustang. That's great! They are great at being the big muscle that they are. Nothing more and nothing less. It doesn't have to be either. Because really, it's in its own segment.
I'd drive the hell out of one if I had it. Drop it down and put some Forgeline wheels on it.
