2010 Hyndai Genesis Coupe
The Jalopnik and AutoBlog crowd are positively messing themselves over this, but I don't really see the attraction. To me it doesn't even measure up to the Nissan Z in rice looks, let alone taking a run at the Pony cars. The engine selection sounds quite impressive, but the looks just don't do anything for me.
The styling is sub-par sure but the fact that its a V8able RWD car from Hyundai is what's impressive.
I'm really excited about this car. Wouldn't ever own one, but I like it. If its priced right it could be a good way to get some fast RWD on the cheap

This could have been a game changer, instead it's a bit of a let down. The styling is odd in too many places with the 2002-2006 Tiburon proving to be a far better looking car IMO. Further, the car seems too big and heavy to make the available turbo four and 3.8L V6 engine choices as compelling as they should be. And I am still shocked that they decided to leave the very promising new V8 out of the mix. Factor in pricing which apparently isn't too far off that of established rivals and the reality is that Hyundai botched virtually every facet and/or feature of this car which could have made it a stand out.

I think the front end looks too much like a tiburon, the back end like an altima coupe, and those silly lines on the side look like they are straight off an elantra.
Front end looks like its puckering up its lips for a kiss. Gay description, but only way to get what I meant across. The back is great, kinda reminds of what the new mazda 6 rear end looks like. Overall I like it. Dont know how its going to do against the 350z or Mustang though. Seems like it would do better against the new Accord and Altima coupes.....if it had a decent V6 instead. Im curous to see what people are going to buy it.
They really could have had a hit on their hands, but they screwed up royaly in the looks department. If they would have taken the current gen tib and changed to RWD and added better engine that would have been better then this.
Given the crowd it will probably just get some turbo V6 swapped in it. It is going to take someone from one of our sides (American V8 enthusiasts) to do something like that. Kind of like how the RX-7 made a perfect LSx swap yet they cried it "ruined" the car.
Nice enough styling, if not quite my cup of tea. But yeah, if Hyundai suddenly grew some big ones and put their powerful new V8 in that thing, they really would kick open the bar room door on the 350Z/Stang/Camaro/Challenger happy hour. For some reason, Asia incorporated has been oddly timid about mixing in one of their excellent V8s with one of their excellent coupe chassis to create their own pony car.
The Genesis coupe, with its reported turbo four and V6 offerings will likely be pretty quick, but would inevitably fall under the 350Z's shadow at least and certainly not come anywhere near the road going gravitas of a full fledged V8 coupe like the domestic pony cars. But the simple expedient of their V8 would instantly change the Genesis nee Tiburon secretary's car image.

I like the looks, because its unique, especially that window, but there's no way it's gonna be as good as the Stang. It looks alot more Japanese, and at the most European, it's definately not American muscle.
