2009 Camaro Prototype

I'm tired of people saying "its going to be great!" becuase Lutz says a bunch of GM employees whose future rides on its success say it looks great. Unless someone who has no vested interest in its success sees the actuall, uncamo'ed production Camaro and says "it looks amazing," I'm waiting for my own eyes to judge.

Looks good to me so far. I like the lines.
I wonder what it would look like parked up next to a vette?
We got pics of the production challenger and we got these camaro ones also, now where is our peak at the new stang?

If the same know how that goes into the Corvette, into the new CTS, and into the new Buick Enclave goes into this new Camaro, it should be quite the car.
I predict it will be an overwhelming success.

I think that is GM's lead N. American designer guy (he's in the car mag ads for the new CTS). Ed Welburn perhaps?
(edit: it is him=> http://fastlane.gmblogs.com/archives...a_camar.html):

until this quite the car costs too much for the target consumer comes close to affording, its going to last five years, then cost too much to make and go the way of the GTO and Camaro before.
sorry my .02, unfortunately the challenger is in the same boat. but boy have i thought about trading the 07 in on one.

I'm a HUGE fan of the new Camaro.....well, the concept anyway. This prototype would appear to be 95% there in terms of looks. In fact, I prefer the wing mirrors on this one.
Whilst I appreciate the comments surrounding the cost of building it, don't forget it's spun off GM's Zeta platform that underpins thousands of Commodores in Australia, never mind the Pontiac stuff in the US. This, surely, must make great economies of scale.
I'm hoping it's a great car as competition can only be good for the Mustang. If this means the '10 refresh and '12/'13 all new Mustang are better cars for it, then we're all winners.
Not sure I'd buy one with that paint job though

It's not going to anywhere near what some of you are implying. ADM on a 100k unit a year car (target goal of course)? It will be nothing near the ADM of a limited edition Shelby or something similar. Hell There some on some of my 5th gen forums that have it in writing for MSRP and are on a waiting list. Like Twin turbo stated this is a mildly tweaked chassis using just about everything from engine and driveline to suspension from exhisting vehicles. I've seen the clay shots of the production front which varies very slightly from the concept and this shows very minor from the driveable car ( which has been out for a while) and unless you really pay attention to detail you can spot most of whats different. I see smaller rims, slightly taller turn signals, traditional door handles, larger rear views all of which we were told in one way or another via hints or otherwise was going to happen. A little more evidence on the price is that GM is having a sweepstakes to give away 3 Bumblebee Camaros with the same 10K paintjob and they have the value at 40K. For a special edition one of 3 with a close to 10k paintjob assures me that it wont be that high.
And for the record yes the Fbods were axed for poor sales but the GTO was signed as a 3 year deal from the start it didn't cease production because of lagging sales which it too had.

Only time will tell if Chevy dealers can avoid the temptations of ADM and potential buyers are willing to put their collective foot down. If it's anything like the initial release of the C6 'Vette, well...
