The 1LE set a 2:58 lap time at VIR - I'm not saying that the Camaro is a bad car, but IMO GM is stretching things a bit.

Yeah, but I'm really interested in how GM got that time? I'm fairly certain its in the tires if they did othing else(pro driver, different way they timed the run et al).
That a nearly two ton vehicle with worse aero, a higher center of gravity, less power, and a little less rubber on the ground was able to best the LS7 powered Z06 at VIR (taken at face value) seems implausible without some fudging going on.

Impressive time, but yeah, these cars would need to be run side by side to be truly significant.
Admittedly it was the 2005 LS2 powered Z06 but my point still stands as that car still features better aero, lower center of gravity, along with a better PW ratio. The 1LE's only advantage really being an overall improvement in tire technology
