iNSURANCE RATES IN THE TORONTO (GTA ) AREA
Good day,
I'm planning on buying an 06 and calling around for insurance quotes. i have a perfect driving record and have been licensed for 25 years. I'm getting quotes of $4000-$4200 for an 05 GT. Is anyone paying this much in the Toronto area? I think it's kinda high.

TCPIP, I know this doesn't really answer your question because I don't live in Toronto, but I called an insurance broker in Barrie, Ontario to get a quote for the '06 I'm ordering (they had to use an '05 as the reference at the time, but assured me it shouldn't be too drastically different).
Anyway, the best quote I got through them was from a company in Oakville called Dominion Insurance or something like that. I live just north of Barrie, I'm 25, have a clean record, and the rate I got was $141 /month for the V6. (works out to $1692 a year, but I think it's cheaper if you don't pay by the month) They also quoted me $202 /month for the GT, but I don't think I can afford the extra 10 G's for the V8.
BTW, I'm in no way affiliated with either the broker or the insurance company. I don't have Dominion's number, but I can try to the find the broker's if you want. It was called Tattersall's (sp?) I think.

You might want to try Belair Direct. I'm in Montreal and checked with about four or five of the know lower cost insurers, Belair was the cheapest by several hundred.
I have my house and my'92 with them also, the '65 is with Silver Wheel. I get a discount for bundling with the house, as well as for having more cars than drivers.
Might be worth giving them a call...

Glad I don;t live in Canada. I pay $242 every 6 months for full coverage and 100/300,000 liability for my GT Vert.
Thanks for all the replies. I went to http://www.kanetix.ca/?wsite_id=google_auto23 and RBC quoted $3400 for the 05 on condition if I move my home ins. with them. Whats killing me is that i live in Toronto. I know if i lived on Baffin island, it would be much cheaper.
I will check out Dominion and Bellair as well. Once again, thank you all for the quick replies!.

Insurance rates also vary depending on the coverage you get. I got as much coverage as possible and the company I deal with is great. If something happens to my car, no questions asked. It gets fixed, I pay a very small deductible and get a loaner car until it is fixed.
Ed you pay $242 every 6 months for 100/300,000. Not sure how it works in the states. All I know is I have a $500.00 deductible for any accidents, $300.00 deductible for comprehensive, $50.00 deductible for windows/vandalism and a $2,000,000.00 liabilty coverage.

Ed,
It's not that Canada in itself has high rates. it's the fact that i live in a city with 4,000,000 other people. I'm sure insurance rates are significantly more in lets say Chicago as oppose to where you are. Either way, you are getting a bargain when it comes to your insurance rate and it's making me crazy!!!!

24 (in my 25th year), female, liscensed for 7 years (currently hold GM class), no tickets/accidents/claims on my record. '05 GT coupe quote for $2100/year. This is with Chubb Insurance, under my name (no occasional drivers), though under a family plan with my mother's and father's cars (no other insurance with them anymore).
PS, this is for Etobicoke

Michael, call RBC directly instead of using Kanetix.
I am 26, live in Brampton, no tickets, one not-at-fault accident and I pay $2800 a year through RBC. That's with the car under my name
you can also try www.insurancehotline.com, they might have some good rates.
State farm is pretty decent in terms of rates as long as you don't make a claim.

Toronto has some of the worst insurance rates in Canada.
From the corrupt insurance industry, to the terrible drivers in this city, the insurance companies leach us for what we are worth.
I will help re-elect the government that brings in public insurance..
That will happen the day gas prices go down

Steve, i couldn't have said it better than you. I think I'll move up to Wawa, Ontario. At least there is a lot of open road. I will also check out Personal insurance, thanks legend05.

I pay $1800 a year for full coverage on my Gt vert. Not much different than Southern Ontario (excluding Toronto).
