I'm heading back to the track in late April for their next Driving School. I thought I'd post here in the event that others might be intersted. It would be cool to see a bunch of Mustangs there representing. But more to the point, you would have the opportunity to get several hours on-track learing what your Pony can do. And without worry of Law Enforcement scrutiny.

Their website is at: http://thunderhill.com/

I have some photos from last August at my site: http://bobbeltrami.com/thunderhill.htm

Hope to see some ponies there!

Hi Deryn! Looking forward to joining the herd at the Gallop again this year.

Yep. $225 including lunch and t-shirt. It went up a bit from last year but that shows how popular motorsports are today. It's still well worth the price, IMO. Thunderhill's a nice facility. And between the classroom time, having an instructor in-car, and five 20-minute sessions on-track followed by debriefs, I learned a ton about the car and my skills (or lack thereof) and I completely O.D.'ed on adrenaline.

I found a cool video of a Kart race at the track. It gives you an idea of the layout and length:

kartweb.com/2005/Thunderhill/Thunderstuck.wmv

Note, this is a race, not the driving school... these guys are haulin' the mail with laps in the area of 2 minutes. The driving school is not a competition, it's a learning experience with none of that intensity. My fastest lap was in the 2:30's (still well over 100MPH in a couple sections). The video is high-quality, so it may take some time to download.

Thanks for the link. I've got Thunderhill's webpage bookmarked now.

Now to convince the wife that this is a good way to spend a vacation.

Looks cool. That track is not too far from me and I have never checked it out. Looks like a fast track to run. I'll have to check the schedule and find a reason to go out there.

Very nice Bob! I have some friends that run a couple of Porsches at VIR here in Virginia. Similar setup. He says their insurance company covers them because it is "Drivers' Education". Wild.... Sounds like tons of fun. Thanks for sharing.

Sea ya,
Red

I am getting pretty stoked about this driving school. I just hope 4:10 gears aren't too low for the track. I have no idea what kind of setups race cars run?

We're one week out, today.

Rich, I remember you posting that you're going to be there. I'll be there along with a buddy who drives a Firebird Formula.

Any other TMS'ers going?

Maybe we could meet-up the evening before and have dinner at the Black Bear Diner or something...?

I live in Chico, so I will be going over in the morning. Looks like we might get a break in the weather. I emailed the track and we drive rain or shine!
