Historic Mustangs On Display at Petersen Museum

A premier Mustang exhibit celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Ford Mustang is currently on display at the world renowned Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, California, located at the corner of Wilshire and Fairfax Avenues. The exhibit will run through November 21rst, 2004. (museum closed on Mondays)

The display consists of: the original one-and-only prototype 1963 Mustang II, the first production 1965 Mustang hardtop, a 1970 Boss 429 fastback and a 1972 Convertible. Unconfirmed at the moment is a 2005 Mustang to be provided by Ford Motor Company.

The prototype Mustang II convertible, truly the "granddaddy" of them all, which was driven at Watkins Glen Raceway in New York in 1963 by Lee Iacocca, has been in the Owls Head Transportation Museum in Maine for the past 10 years after having come out of a 20 year hibernation. This magnificent stylized prototype produced to test the market for the soon to come new production Mustang will only be seen in the western U.S. at the Petersen exhibit this fall before its return to Maine. This may be the only time the prototype will be seen together with the first production hardtop Mustang.

Round up your gang and head 'em on out to the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles before this one time exhibit is gone forever in November. This may be your only chance to be photographed with the fabulous Mustang II.

Why not join the Mustang Owners Club of California on Sunday, September 19th, for their 25th Annual West Coast Show, "Mustangs at the Museum" to be held at the Petersen with 100+ cars participating. (Call 818-360-8218 for car show details) Financial support for the transportation of the Mustang II was provided by Mustang parts suppliers: National Parts Depot, and Scott Drake Enterprises. Mustang II will arrive at the exhibit August 17th. For further information call the Petersen Automotive Museum 323-964-6356.

There is also a cool Carroll Shelby exhibit.
