Here's some important info for those of you coming to the Barber Park 200 this weekend:
  • The Mustangs practice from 12:50-1:35 and from 3:35-4:20 on Friday afternoon.
  • My local Mustang club is having a meeting in the paddock on Friday at 5:30. It requires paddock access, but you are invited. We'll have a Q&A session with some of the drivers and crew and reps from Ford racing, and you'll have your photo taken on the winner's podium with Grand-Am Mustang drivers and a 2005 Mustang FR500C in front of the podium.
  • The Mustangs practice from 9:00-9:50 on Saturday.
  • GS class qualifying is from 11:35-11:50 on Saturday.
  • The Barber Park 200 starts at 2:00 on Saturday.
  • You are all invited to a post-race grille out at my house at 6:30. Email me for the details.
  • Bring an FM radio. The Motorsports Park broadcasts on 106.3.
  • Check the weather. It'll either be really hot or really wet. Dress appropriately and bring sunscreen.
  • Bring a folding chair.
  • Bring a tripod/monopod for your camera if you have one. It makes for better photos of cars at speed.
  • Email me if you plan to attend and I'll give you my cell phone number.

One other item on your equipment list that I haven't seen on Brad's list or elsewhere on the site. Bring ear protection!

Agreed. It's music to my ears, too. But 40+ unmuffled performance engines (from turbocharged Porsches to screaming Ferraris to thundering American Iron) at full song is overwhelming without protection. You can still hear (and feel!) them when using foam earplugs.

My advice: take some earplugs. If you need them, you've got them. If you don't need them, that's fine too. Better yet, bring your radio with earbuds, then wear ear muffs over the headset.

My first year at the Barber track (2003) was my first time seeing any race live. A friend suggested earplugs. Now I make sure I tell everyone who goes the same thing.

Got the directions to your house for Saturday. We'll see you at Steele Friday night.
