Dragons Tail Cruise
Dragons Tail Cruise
A friend of mine mentioned that there was going to be a cruise thru the Dragons Tail in North Carolina. I am not that familiar with it, and neither was he. My question is : anyone aware of it and when is it? My understanding is it is somewhere outside of the Charlotte, NC area. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I am also interested in any Mustang happenings in WNC.

i am going to hit this road on my way to louisville for the mca show next weekend. a couple things from a biker friend who takes regualr vacations to this area for rides
1. watch out for the semi trucks - they're a bunch of line crossing a-holes and have caused many accidents. http://www.tailofthedragon.com/dragon_trucks.html
2. dont cross the lines in the curves - there could be sport bikes whipping around from the other direction.
3. did i mention its a popular place for motorcycles to ride? theres a ton of them there.
4. dont forget the cherohala skyway - another road in the area that i have seen some great pics from. from ne of the websites

Save your speed for a track day where there is plenty of run-off and enjoy the sights at the pull-offs.
I'm not much of a poster here, just mostly a lurker, but the TotD is one place I am very familiar with. We have a group from Alabama that goes up at least once a year. Its a very fun drive, if you check out their website (tailofthedragon.com like a few have already posted) it will give you an events schedule of what groups are up there when. It is most recomended if it is your first time to go up there when there aren't many groups up. And lastly, if you aren't familiar with the road and aren't going to drive it semi fast, if you see bikes or other cars behind you, pull over when you can or you will have sports bikes start passing you in the curve which is dangerous to them, other cars and you.
Edit: Looks like I brought this post back from a few months =X

Me and my buddy (who has a Speed3) have been wanting to do this run for a while - our plans for Mat fell through so I am eager to check it out when our schedule frees up... the vids I have seen look awesome!

. There are some other roads in that area that I like even more than the Dragon. The Cherahala Skyway Rocks...it goes from about 1700' to over 5000' in about 20 miles (total length is about 50 miles). The weather on top is always different than at the bottom. We left Robbinsville on a 65 deg Fall day with clear blue skies and at the top of the Cherahala the trees were covered with 1/4" of ice and it was 30 degrees(we were in the clouds). Highway 28 to Fontana Dam is a great drive too. Don't forget to try Foothills Parkway between US 129(Dragon) and US 321 in Townsend Tennessee, it tops out close to 5000'.
Here's a pic showing the change Tacbear is talking about, this was on the downside of the Cherahala.
