Painting Die Cast?
So I collect 1/24 cars, and the selection of cars and colors is poor to say the least. I have too many 1/24 cars already to give up on that scale and start with the 1/18. Anyway, have you guys tried painting an already painted die cast car? If so what kind of paint did you use?
I have never painted any diecast as big as 1/24. However, in the case of 1/64, the process is kind of involved.
1. Separate the body from the chassis.
2. Strip the existing paint from the body. I've tried all kinds of paint remover, including brake fluid.
3. Remove any casting imperfections you can find with steel wool and needle files.
4. Prime the body. Krylon in a spray can works pretty good, or if you are a more advanced hobbyist, use automotive primer and an airbrush
5. Paint the body. Again, Krylon works pretty good, but you can use just about any type of paint that you want if you have an airbrush.
6. Finish with clear cote or GlossCote by Testors.
A few words of warning.
- Always Always Always work in a well ventillated space.
- If you've never done this before, find an inexpensive way to practice before you go messing around with models that you really like.
- Avoid enamels if you can. They chip really easily.
Hope this helps.

For strippin the body try some Castrol Super Clean in a purple bottle. BE CAREFUL THOUGH AS THIS STUFF WILL EAT YOUR SKIN!!!!! Set the body down in there for a few says then wash off the paint thats left then prime and paint.
If you want to have correct colors for them look at this place(link). They have a greeat selection and the paints are great. If you use them get a can of white duplicolor lacquer primer and use that.
