Johnny Lightning has had the program for a while, but I could find a post on it and thought I'd add one.

If you think your car would look good in 1/64 scale, go to the link below. Johnny Lightning has a program where they will take a picture of your car and create a diecast version of it.

I'd love to be able to own some of the cars I've seen on this website - check it out:

That is really cool. To have a miniature of your mustang. I would do that if I owned a mustang.

Johnny Lightning is sort of in upheaval right now, what with the recent RC2 buy out. Mac Ragan is over the YCITS program, and he's probably swamped. Give it a little time.

Also, I think the car has to be yours. If it isn't, the contract that they come up with would have to be with the actual owner of the car, and if Mac doesn't have your cousin's contact info, it won't happen.

Please mail slide submissions to Your Car is the Star, Dept. MR, Playing Mantis, 3618 Grape Road, Mishawaka IN 46545
What does that mean?
CASTINGS!

Cars are organized alphabetically by marque. All vehicles are stock-bodied unless otherwise noted. Modified body panels (i.e., non-factory ground effects and spoilers) and roll cages cannot be reproduced, however non-stock colors are both acceptable and welcomed. This is not a complete JL casting list as most customs, race cars, and one-offs have been left off this list.
What's a casting?

"Slide Submissions" refers to the fact that if you are going to snail mail the photo to Johnny Lightning, it needs to be a 35mm slide, not a picture.

Right below that it says
"please email digital submissions to
mragan@playingmantis.com. "

So you can send a digital picture to Mac. He may have you photoshop it a little.

The second paragraph you refer to is a description of the Casting list that follows. What they are saying is "If you have a heavily modified car, we can't do it. Wild paint is not a problem."

A Casting refers to a mold of a car. Johnny Lightning makes 25 different Mustangs, but not all of them are listed as individual castings. For example, it says "Ford Mustang fastback 1965-73". This refers to the 4 different castings that cover this period. The list is not complete because many of the cars that Johnny Lightning makes are replicas of one-of-a-kind cars, like Troy Trepanier's Rumblurr. Chances are very slim that you have a second version of the Rumblurr in your garage.

For simplicity's sake, here's a list of the Mustangs that Johnny Lightning can make at the current time (according to their current list):

Ford Mustang convertible 1965-6, 71-73

Ford Mustang coupe or convertible, GT or Cobra 1999-2002 (no Bullitt, Cobra R or models with the raised hood scoop)

Ford Mustang fastback 1965-73

Ford Mustang GT hatch 1987-1993

Ford Mustang II 1975-78 with factory ground effects (i.e., King Cobra and Cobra II models)

Yeah, JL can't do heavy body mods. Body kits, spoilers, scoops, flairs, effects kits and airdams can't be done.

A body kit is a piece or several pieces of fiberglass or other material that was added to the car buy an aftermarket company. I am not an expert on Fox Bodies, but basically, if the car has had stuff added to it after it was sold, it's probably got a body kit. Saleen, Roush and Steeda all have their own distinct body kits.

Does this help?

You haven't told me a whole lot about your cousin's car, but from your questions, it sounds like Johnny Lightning won't be able to do it.

1. The car isn't yours - it's your cousin's. Legal documents are required to get a replica made, and you can't have someone else's car made without them signing the docs.
2. It sounds like your cousin's car is externally modified. Unless the car lookes like the picture I posted below, they won't do it. (When I say "like the picture below", I mean the external look of the car without regard to paint).

As I mentioned before, there are some talented modellers on hobbytalk.com that could probably customize a car, if that's what you wanted...
